From Purpose to Impact: The Importance of Grit in Growth, Transformation, and Innovation

From Purpose to Impact: The Importance of Grit in Growth, Transformation, and Innovation

Over the past year, we’ve seen people and businesses scrambling to adapt to shifting circumstances. No one could get any kind of grounding. To many, it seemed that the COVID-19 pandemic still has no end in sight. But to a few resilient individuals, their grit gave them hope that humanity can and will survive all adversities.

With grit, there is a faint light, giving us hope that another fatal wave isn’t heading our way. With grit, we are able to devote ourselves to endeavors that bring value to the communities we serve.

The importance of grit

New York Times bestselling author Angela Duckworth tells us that grit is a combination of perseverance and passion. It’s the driving force that allows us to overcome challenges and find sustainable solutions, even when comfort and complacency are just around the corner.?

I strongly believe that grit is one of the most powerful traits high achievers exude, no matter what field they specialize in. It’s how you identify which cadets will make it through training. It’s how doctors can perform the most complicated operations. It’s how athletes strive to hit their goal no matter how strenuous the process may take.

While grit is crucial in achieving goals, this trait must be evident in all members of the organization. That’s the only way a company will succeed--everyone must have a common goal and everyone must be persistent in delivering solutions to every Filipino.?

That’s why we, at JuanTax, exemplify grit in everything we do.?

It’s no secret that one of the toughest challenges every Filipino faces is tax compliance. We are no exemption. When we decided to address that need, we knew that it was going to be a rough uphill battle. There’s the government, financial institutions, payment intermediaries, market adaptation, and talent sources to consider. But you always have to ask yourself, “for who am I doing this for?”

“What value can we give to the community once we overcome these challenges?”

Every day, we at JuanTax remind ourselves of our purpose--the company’s reason for being. Our purpose is our true source of grit; our strong character. Our purpose allows us to keep innovating, improving, connecting to clients, solving problems, and growing. Without a strong enough purpose, it’s easy to lose track of our long-term goals.

Knowing our purpose allowed us to create platforms that helped more than 30,000 Filipinos file their taxes easier. That’s just over four years of delivering our commitment. Imagine what more we could do in the next decade.?

Grit for growth

Showing grit in the workplace has been instrumental for growth--both in our professional and personal lives. That’s why in our upcoming online professional convention titled, Emerging from Crisis: Finding Purpose with Grit, we will demonstrate how you can show grit in everything you do--from finding your purpose at work to transforming the lives of others.

In our online convention, we invited notable speakers who will share with you how they exhibited grit in transforming purpose into action.

We are honored to have the following guests at the convention:

  • Ardy S. Abello, Consultant, Entrepreneur and Coach, RGA + Management Consultancy
  • Cesar Wee Jr., Chief Executive Officer, Wee Community DeveloPERS, Inc.,
  • Dr. Rex Bacarra, Academic Director, Southville-RAK
  • Katherine Castro, CPA Consultant for SMEs and a Top Filipino Women on LinkedIn

Also, we will be graced by the presence of Bo Sanchez, motivational speaker, entrepreneur, and author of world-renown books.?

Furthermore, I will be sharing with you some important updates on our ongoing efforts--from the success of our JuanTax Academy, our on-the-job training programs, and our partnerships with legal and CPA practitioners.

The convention is open to accounting professionals and students, micro to small business owners, self-employed professionals, and all JuanTax partners. To learn more about the event, visit this link: https://juan.tax/online-convention.

Giving back to the community

JuanTax may not be its own success story without the support of Filipinos. In that regard, we are elevating our purpose by pledging 100% of our online convention’s proceeds to School TextBlast, the leading communication platform in education that allows public school teachers to conduct quizzes and other activities for their students via SMS.?

School TextBlast was able to provide a platform to more than 1,000 schools in the country, making distance learning possible for those who cannot afford laptops and gadgets to continue their education.

We are truly inspired by the grit and perseverance shown by the team behind School TextBlast, particularly during the pandemic when face-to-face learning in schools is not applicable. With this sudden shift away from classrooms, there has never been a more opportune time to make learning accessible to every child in the Philippines.

With grit, innovation never stops

Every day, we are challenged to show grit. We are challenged to find better ways to solve problems, innovate existing processes, and go beyond our current standards. At JuanTax, we are challenged to persevere past the point of being good because we can make an impact on Filipinos. But this will only be possible if we do it together.

To show grit, we must have an inherent belief that everything we do has a purpose. As Duckworth said, “To be gritty is to keep putting one foot in front of the other. To be gritty is to hold fast to an interesting and purposeful goal.”
