FROM PHILOSOPHERS TO PREACHERS: THE EVOLUTION OF MOTIVATIONAL TRAINING

If we read the teachings of philosophers and philanthropists from bygone eras, we'll discover that the motivational trainers of today often draw inspiration from these theorists. Interestingly enough, a majority of these great sages were also excellent team players and recognized the value of working with others to achieve their goals. Unfortunately, the current crop of preachers of their teachings do not seem to embrace this spirit of collaboration and prefer flying solo rather than in collaboration.
Although there are hundreds of motivational trainers around the world, none of them collaborate on one platform. Since there is no consensus on what is necessary for people to know about this field, and no subject has been taught about it, the sector lacks unity and direction.
Although trainers may cover similar topics, their delivery styles and techniques differ, making each of them unique in their way. Nevertheless, if they could come together and work as a team, they could establish sector standards and practices that benefit everyone involved.
The industry's big names are skillful at luring and manipulating audiences with their swanky words and glitzy presentation, which often overshadows quality trainers who would rather give priority to delivering practical and insightful content. Hence, many deserving trainers struggle to gain recognition and make their way into people's hearts.

This is a call for rising above the flamboyant entrapments, and to focus on delivering practical and insightful training content that truly makes a step-change difference in peoples’ lives.
The world of motivational training is in dire need of a collaborative spirit. It is time for the gurus of the training industry to put their egos aside and work collectively towards a common goal. By coming together and establishing sectoral standards, adhering to best practices, and establishing recognized community platforms, the training industry can reach new heights, benefitting both the trainers and their audiences.

1 年I finally got round to reading your article, 'From philosophers....' Your thoughts and desire resonate with me, and will no doubt find support amongst many, if not all, in the training and speaking profession. There is an assumption when you say, "It is time for the gurus of the training industry to put their egos aside and work collectively towards a common goal." This is a generalization. As I see it, everyone involved in the L&D field is, at some deeper level, knowingly or unknowingly, working towards a larger common goal, which could be described as developing the human factor, in one way or the other.??In my view, it is the very diversity of thoughts and approaches, in the field of human development, that ultimately creates a unified impact, resulting in a more aware, competent and responsible citizenry. Egos may be a factor that prevents a few from collaborating, but in my experience, the majority of speakers and trainers would be happy to come together for a common cause, when invited to do so. My 2 cents :)
