From a (perhaps) wild idea to a technology going into a test well tomorrow
I have to admit it is with great excitement that we tomorrow are deploying a number of components from our Micro-Tube Remover tool - Perhaps the most advanced and capable wellbore intervention tool developed in our industry - into the test well at Ullrigg in Stavanger, Norway.
Now we will demonstrate our "see through tubular" technology, the anchor including a modified anchor to mark a position, and the number of motors and electronics built into this technology.
I certainly has come a long way since the "naive" sketches I made to the high tech that Rune, Ole Magnus and Eugene here stand next too.
Good luck tomorrow, guys, and this is a significant milestone for us, for our sponsors Innovation Norway, The Norwegian Research Council, Aker BP, Neptune Energy, Total and our shareholders. Without these passionate and patient partners this would not happen.
We would like to honor Total, who invites and allows us to test the technology as part of their extensive P&A testing taking part these days at Ullrigg. We are ready!
Again, a What if it Works? moment
The work that this tool basis can perform downhole is rig-less cutting/removal of micro tubes (cables etc. placed outside a tubing string), detection of objects externally of the tubular it is located within, observation of tubular offset versus tubular externally, longitudinal contact between these, plus all the opportunities beyond P&A it will emerge into: Windows, retrofit sand control sections, straddles, replaceable ICD′s, downhole machining of profiles (e.g. nipple profiles) and so much more. Just think of it as a basic robotic tool that can do very complex machining and placement techniques in deep wellbores.
Just check out the old animation at www.weinventstuff.com and see how much this have evolved. And again, animations are always wrong when you create them early in a technology development - But, I guess that is development and evolution ;-)
