From Overwhelmed to Empowered: 7 Steps to Mastering Delegation and Achieving Steady Growth

Before I mastered the art of delegation, I was stressed about these five aspects of my business:

• Unclear vision
• Fluctuating revenue
• Poor team performance
• Ineffective time management
• Inconsistent client engagement

However, I was taught the following 7 steps to delegation which helped me eradicate this anxiety and significantly boosted my personal and professional development:

1. Define the task, the “why,” the definition of success & the due date
2. Ask for playback of task definition, “why,” success & due date from them
3. Define the boundaries of their independent authority without checking back with you
4. Ask if they have any questions or if anything is unclear – probe, this step is critical
5. Once clarity is attained, ask if they have the requisite resources to get it done
6. Ask if there are any obstacles that might be in the way of getting it done
7. Ask for their commitment that it will be done well and on time

It’s amazing what can happen when we move from “just get this done” to being extremely clear when delegating a task or project.
