From Orphan to Entrepreneur. How a second chance at life might just make the world a better place.
Charitabl. | The Easy Way To Give
Secure payment technology for charities and not-for-profits.
Over the last week as delegates have flooded through the gates at the inaugural SXSW Sydney conference there has been one man who feels luckier than most.
Mike Gore, Founder & CEO at Charitabl. an exciting new tech start-up that many are calling the UberEats of giving feels a sense of purpose and reflection as he interacts with people at their stall in the start-up village.
Gore was abandoned at birth in India in 1981 and from what he knows left in a field and found by a paediatrician who was passing by, he was placed into an orphanage and through a series of events smuggled across state lines and ultimately adopted by a family in Australia.
Gore says, ‘this is a really interesting week for me as I think back over the journey my life has taken to lead me to this point and can’t help but feel an overwhelming sense of thankfulness and a strange sense of purpose. Charitabl. in many ways is my pay it forward for an act of kindness that changed the course of my life. I know like any start-up it is likely to go either way but to be at SXSW Sydney in the start-up village is in many ways beyond my wildest dreams.?
Charitabl. hopes to become the household name in giving allowing users to easily make donations to any of the 39,000 registered charities hosted on the platform. It is a commission free donation platform, and the business model relies on charities being willing to pay a small monthly fee to access a range of premium benefits like managing donation data, appeals modules, custom swipe amounts and profile updates.?

‘We built Charitabl. to help foster relationships with donors and charities. We don’t sell data. We don’t make it available to other organisations. We simply want to share the costs of technology across the sector and stop charities from all spending donor money on building their own apps when we could all help cover the costs of one.’ says Gore.
In a world where there is increasing pressure on charities to run efficiently and direct as much to the project as possible an ability to share costs and centralise a sector is an incredibly interesting value proposition that could very possibly change the world.
‘My hope is that Charitabl. can survive the start-up journey and find a sustainable business model that sees charities dream with us and share the costs of technology across the sector. In the last 12 weeks since we’ve launched, I’ve met so many charities that do unbelievable work but could never afford something like this, similarly I’ve met charities with several hundred millions of dollars of income that will also benefit from this. I never created it to be rich and famous. I created it to make the world a better place and use the second chance I was given to show people no matter your life story you can make a difference.’
