From Numbers to Narratives: Webchat's Ongoing Impact

In our interconnected world, the way we communicate, seek information, and access support has been transformed by the digital age. It's a positive shift that has broken down barriers, making help and guidance more accessible than ever before. The WithYou webchat initiative, which began in 2017, is one of the efforts aimed at addressing the diverse needs of individuals seeking advice on alcohol, drugs, and mental health. Through webchat, we've tried to emphasise the value of making support more accessible and immediate for those in need.

New report highlights the significant strides made by our webchat service

This week, WithYou launches its Webchat Impact Report, which delves deeper into the significant progress made by the webchat service. But beyond all the numbers and statistics, it shares real-life stories of people who have found the help they needed. It's not just about the individuals who directly seek help; it's also about the family members, friends, and loved ones who are indirectly affected, many of whom have turned to our webchat for guidance.?Webchat staff also have the opportunity to share insights of what it’s like on the other end, working on the service.?

So, what is webchat?

The WithYou webchat service is an online platform where anyone over the age of 13 can go to access advice and support for challenges relating to alcohol, drugs and mental health. Many individuals, for various reasons, can’t or won’t access help, support and treatment for their drug and alcohol use. For some people, acknowledging that they have a problem can be daunting, and beginning a treatment journey can seem like a significant challenge. But there are other factors, which may seem minor, that also act as roadblocks when it comes to accessing support.

Somewhat simple things like where you live, your work hours, and societal stigmas - all play a part in stopping someone from reaching out. For many, the virtual nature of the webchat service has broken down these barriers, making professional guidance accessible for those restricted.

The data clearly indicates that this platform is reaching these harder-to-access and often marginalised groups, many of whom have never before sought support. Ultimately, it bridges the gap.

Webchat is accessible, free, and ensures your anonymity. It acts as a 'front door' for anyone seeking support for drug, alcohol, or mental health challenges, offering both a welcoming entry point and the opportunity for immediate intervention. The service is designed to simplify the process of seeking help, making it as straightforward as possible.

Webchat provides a unique impact that traditional in-person services sometimes can't match. The Webchat Impact Report illustrates that virtual webchat services aren't just supplementary; they are essential components of our service offerings. Continued support and funding for these virtual services are crucial. They enable us to maintain and enhance our impact, ensuring we reach an even wider audience in need.
