From my Journal - a weekly wrap-up
I read this on a blog and made a note of it, never thought will use here, but seems just a perfect start.
I have been a happy man ever since January 1, 1990, when I no longer had an email address. I'd used email since about 1975, and it seems to me that 15 years of email is plenty for one lifetime.
Email is a wonderful thing for people whose role in life is to be on top of things. But not for me; my role is to be on the bottom of things. What I do takes long hours of studying and uninterruptible concentration. I try to learn certain areas of computer science exhaustively; then I try to digest that knowledge into a form that is accessible to people who don't have time for such study - Prof. Donald E. Knuth (https://www-cs-faculty.stanford.edu/~knuth/email.html)
I know I am adding an email here but will give in my heart to make it a value for you. The weekly wrap-up plans to cover stuff from what I read, things I've learned, new stuff, snippets from my blog, events, stories from my coachings, and workshops.
Quote:
"The scarcest resource is not oil, metals, clean air, capital, labor, or technology. It is our willingness to listen to each other and learn from each other and to seek the truth rather than seek to be right." - Donella Meadows.
From what I read
The paper clip strategy. Making brisk progress by simple strategy. Trent Dyrsmid began each morning with two jars on his desk. One was filled with 120 paper clips. The other was empty. As soon as he settled in each day, he would make a sales call. Immediately after, he would move one paper clip from the full jar to the empty jar and the process would begin again. “Every morning I would start with 120 paper clips in one jar and I would keep dialing the phone until I had moved them all to the second jar. Stories from my coaching sessions
We tend to lose hope while we are in the daily grind. It is important to never stop believing in self. This person was facing the challenge of career plateau. He had been for a long in the same role. Sometimes the vision ahead becomes a blur as you were not able to give enough time to reflect and then respond. With guidance, the person was able to discover other interest areas and skills that were needed were Identified. As part of the check-in process, I reached out and could hear the sense of contentment with new direction and exploration.
I stepped out after over 137 days.
I've been strictly staying indoors post the world was taken over by this virus. I'm a working-out-of-cafe person. Outdoors fills in energy and optimism in my lungs. When I stepped out yesterday, I sensed the dullness, like grey and still. Like those lonely streets in the night back then when all the shutters are closed and no life is seen on the dark roads. Things and surroundings truly have changed and are masked with uncertainty.
Make good art
This one is an addition to my desk clipboard. Reminding me when days are good - make good art, make it when days are too. Read more on my blog (https://zeninme.wordpress.com/2020/08/21/a-jolly-good-ride-126/).
Wishing you a great and mindful weekend ahead
