As Tannay walked out of the meeting room, he called upon the memory of his grandmother saying, “left foot forward, stop, right foot forward stop, left foot forward, stop…” it was from a story his grandmother used to tell him when he was a little boy.

He had no idea where that memory crept in from. However, it gave him the strength to walk back to his desk, collect his things and take an auto back to the apartment he shared with four other people.

He read the letter again in the auto on the way home. “In the light of our current business condition, your present role has been eliminated. Recognizing your exemplary services we offer you three choices.

1. Resign - work for 90 days and receive an additional 30 days bonus
2. Resign - with a full waiver of the 90 day notice period.
3. Resign - and we help you find a job in a geography that could leverage your skills"

There was more, but he could not read past it. Wave after wave of discomfort, shame and fear combined with the fumes from the auto making him nauseous. He could almost taste the spicy sambar from the breakfast he had quickly swallowed that morning....
