From Mercy to Morehouse

“Always stay strong and remember there is something better in the end, no matter what the problem is now.” These words and a spirit of perseverance is what Adrian Pennick would like to share with the current students of Mercy Neighborhood Ministries.

Adrian’s academic roots were formed at GESU, Germantown Friends, and of course, Mercy Neighborhood Ministries. During his high school years, he played baseball and interned for State Representative Donna Bullock. This fall, he begins his first year at Morehouse College in Atlanta where he plans to study psychology. In his college search, Adrian knew that he wanted to attend an HBCU and Morehouse stood out to him.

“They have an ideology of growth and improvement,” Adrian explains. “I’ll have more opportunities to expand my horizons.”

Adrian credits his uncle for emphasizing the importance of education at an early age and his mother, Ariel Pennick, for being his biggest support.

“Mercy is part of our village,” Ariel says. A “Mercy girl” herself - having graduated from Waldron and Merion Mercy Academy - she is grateful for her son's time spent in our afterschool program and looks forward to this new chapter. She adds, “Becoming a man, he’ll get to experience a new city and a new journey.”

Adrian - your Mercy Neighborhood family is so proud of you and wishing you all the best at Morehouse!
