From Match to Miracle | #MyFridayStory No. 242

The miracle of life starts with a match.

Two people can come together and create a new life. That places us in the realms of the gods. The fact that passion and love can be the start of something as beautiful as a new baby, is a sign of God’s love. With almost 8 Billion of us on the planet and billions passed, we tend to trivialise the glory and privilege of bringing another life into the world.

We should wield the power with caution.

When I was young, I dreamed of finding the right woman to marry. I’m the product of Parents who loved each other with every molecule of their being. They got married shortly after WWII and stayed married for 60 years. In my life, I never heard either of them raise their voices at each other. They stayed best friends their whole life together. Being raised in a loving and warm environment like that, I had a front-row seat to the best love story in the world.

My Brother was my hero. He was 11 years older than me and would take me with him wherever he went. When he started working and got his first car, a canary yellow Ford Capri V6, we’d go on drives and listen to Bob Dylan on the 8-Track player. We’d go to the municipal swimming pool on hot summer days. One day at the pool, he pointed out a pretty girl that he liked.

From that first sighting, until he started dating her, right through to their marrying, I had another front-row seat watching this love story unfold. After they married, on various occasions, I’d move in with them for a while. These are some of my most cherished memories together. I saw first-hand how they loved each other devotedly until his death 2 years ago. Their 3 children are proof of that love.

My marriage triggered miracle upon miracle.

I'm blessed with a Son and Daughter who are generous, balanced young adults. Their mother and I were matched to create such perfection. My Snap-on Daughter is the product of a father and mother perfectly matched to produce a beautiful soul such as her. Since my Grandson arrived almost 4 years ago, every person he's touched has experienced his love. He is confirmation of the miracle. My Snap-on Daughter’s Son and his little sister further confirmation of the miracle.

My marriage and my Snap-on- Daughters Mom and Dad's marriage ended too. For some time, I lost sight of the miracle of the kids that resulted from those failed unions. I thought because the parents had lost the love and passion that created them, the miracle is lost. I discounted the miracle of that match.

I recently found out I’m going to be Pops to a new clan member. A little girl is on her way to join her big brother sometime later this year. My Son and Daughter-in-law have produced another miracle. A new life is about to enter this world. From the miracle of the matching of two people to the miracle of bringing a life into this world, I’m making more space for extra love.
