From management consultant to delivery driver...
Last week I met a really nice, very professional, delivery driver when he delivered a new vehicle from a dealer in the South of England.
Even though he lived locally in Wilmslow, only a few miles away, he’d driven 180 miles from Hampshire. He’d been all over the country delivering cars in the last week or so.
He mentioned that he’d only been doing the job for about two weeks, that he was really enjoying it, although it was very different to what he’d been doing until a few months ago.
Curious, I asked what he’d been doing previously and he said he was a management consultant for a firm in Manchester, but that he’d lost his job because of Coronavirus. When I asked what area of consultancy he said “corporate recovery, insolvency, restructure, debt advisory of all things ironically!â€
My first reaction was “Crikey, I would think that you’d be busier than ever at the moment?!â€
“Yes, you’d think so†he said, “but all of our work was from the Courts which have been closed for some time so we had no work…â€
Hats off to him for adapting and his change of career.
There will be so many people like Paul
Not many people, families, businesses or sectors have not been affected by COVID
We wrapped up the handover after about 10 minutes with him commenting that most of the vehicles from dealers that he was delivering were leased. Like mine was, from leasing.com
