From Local Talent to Global Impact: Preparing Youth for International Success.

From Local Talent to Global Impact: Preparing Youth for International Success.

When I was young and starting out, at that time we didn't have the resources or mentors to guide us or learn from.

Today, all of that is available and free. Make sure you use it wisely!

Facts

In Macedonia, there are about 10,000 recorded freelancers, with many more unrecorded, working for the US, UK, Canada, and other markets. The minimum monthly salary for a regular worker is around €250, but freelancers often earn over €700. Despite this potential, thousands of young people leave the country each year searching for work abroad. There’s plenty of talent, but not enough opportunities or recognition.

I want to share a brief story with a big impact for both global employers and job seekers. Hiring talent from anywhere is easier than ever. But what does "easier than ever" really mean? Behind that lies a well-educated, informed, and skilled individual. Each person needs the right support from their country’s resources to learn about global markets, become fluent in multiple languages, and effectively showcase their talents to employers worldwide.

That's why I started events aimed at educating youth in small, untapped towns and regions. By gathering professionals to share their knowledge, we’re preparing young people for the global workforce, making it easier for those hiring and those looking to be hired. Our first event was in Kratovo, Macedonia — my hometown. It's full of potential but lacks opportunities. Many young people, like me, left in search of better prospects.

Now, we're coming back to share what they've learned and help the next generation succeed right here at home.

Here’s how our recent event went:

Event Overview

We brought together a lively group of high schoolers, young people, and a few older attendees eager to learn and grow. Over three hours, professionals from various fields, such as IT, Journalism and Media, Architecture, Psychology, Languages, Tourism, and Business, led informative, question-based sessions.

We covered key topics, including:

  • Career and Education: Opportunities in each industry, working for local vs. global markets, and careers in the US and UK markets.
  • Skill Development: Building a career, skill requirements, and education choices (college, university, academia, certification).
  • Mentorship and Growth: The importance of role models, professional journeys, work-life balance, and choosing the right career.
  • Technology and Society: AI's impact, working as freelancers and virtual assistants, the future of freelance work, women in tech, and anxiety and social media among youth.
  • Communication and Learning: The importance of languages, learning, public speaking, and finding mentors to guide you.

This was an "ask away" event where attendees could find their mentor or role model.

Parents also learned how to understand their kids' choices, the generation gap, the impact of technology, and the importance of learning.

Purpose and Benefits

Our primary goal was to bridge the gap between talented youth and global career opportunities. By focusing on career readiness, education, and breaking language barriers, we aimed to equip young individuals with the tools they need to thrive in larger markets.

Guest professionals shared their experiences, giving attendees firsthand insights into different industries. This inspired our young participants and gave them a clearer understanding of what it takes to succeed today.

We provided materials to help attendees on their professional journeys, including:

  • Skill and professional self-assessments
  • Public speaking tips for events
  • Job interview tips and tricks
  • English language proficiency self-assessment templates
  • Steps for self-learning English when working for international companies

The Mentors

Why This Matters

For employers seeking skilled worldwide Talent- freelancers and virtual assistants, this event highlighted the untapped potential in regions often overlooked. By investing in these young talents, companies can access diverse professionals who bring fresh perspectives and innovative ideas.

Retaining talent in each country can reduce unemployment, boost happiness, strengthen the economy, attract global investment, and help the global market succeed and make a difference. This is particularly the number one reason why we need more events like this to educate and empower the youth so that they can nurture their Talents and stay close to home.

For global job seekers, freelancers, and virtual assistants, events like these are crucial stepping stones. They offer opportunities to network, learn, and grow, ensuring they're ready to meet global clients' expectations.
