From Local Streets To Global Stages: A Dream In Progress

Being born in Nigeria to a poor family puts you far behind your peers in other parts of the world. Here, opportunities are limited and often based not on merit, but on connections; who you know and who knows you or how much you can pay to get what you want.

Being brilliant and passionate doesn't always open doors in these parts of the world. There are rooms you can never access because you don't have a name. There are opportunities certain children will get while you face rejection and not because they're better, but because they have someone who can say "This is my child."

And honestly, there's nothing wrong with this, it's simply how the world works. If I had such opportunities through parents and people who could vouch for me, I would gladly use them too.

Sometimes I wish I was from a wealthy home, but wishes aren't horses, and I've accepted my reality ??. Like many of you, I don't have such privileges, so I hold onto my dreams, ambitions, hard work, and faith in God. I trust God deeply, even though doubt and fear often creep in.

There are times I wonder if I'll achieve my dreams; they seem too big, and my present reality doesn't appear to be leading me toward these goals. But after the doubt passes, I keep holding on. I imagine myself speaking on global stages like Amina Mohammed, the Deputy-Secretary General of the United Nations, and Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Director General of the World Trade Organization. While these heights might seem unreachable from where I stand today, there's no harm in believing.

I know there are many young people out there, especially women, who share similar ambitions. I can't give advice since I'm walking the same path with very little clarity, but I can say this: hold onto your dreams.

I hope to see myself on global stages someday soon, discussing my passions and, most importantly, driving social impact and policies that improve the lives of girls, women, and people in general.

This newsletter is my way of sharing my journey with you; my thoughts, challenges, and pursuit of my goals. Thank you for reading. Write to you soon.

Would love to read from you about your struggles as you navigate the journey to becoming what you desire.
