From Local Consultant to Global Player: Part 3: Embracing a Growth Mindset.

From Local Consultant to Global Player: Part 3: Embracing a Growth Mindset.

As we continue our exploration of staying relevant in the age of AI and automation, I want to pick up the narrative from my previous role with an international company, where I earned a salary of 400,000 Naira per month. This opportunity was a game-changer, exposing me to diverse cultures, communication styles, and industry best practices that broadened my perspective and honed my adaptability.

The ability to collaborate effectively in a global environment is a major asset in today's interconnected world. Contrary to the misconception that automation will eliminate the need for "soft skills" like communication, critical thinking, and problem-solving, these human-centric skills are becoming even more crucial as we navigate the age of intelligent machines.

For five years, I immersed myself in this international environment, expanding my horizons and gaining invaluable experience that would eventually pave the way for my next bold move: founding my consulting firm in 2017.

The Entrepreneurial Leap: Navigating Uncertainty

While the decision to leave the security of a well-paid corporate role might seem risky, it was a calculated leap born out of a decade of learning and preparation. I had spent years honing my skills, expanding my network, and developing a deep understanding of the consulting industry – all while maintaining an unwavering commitment to continuous growth.

The journey of entrepreneurship was challenging, especially in the initial stages, but it was a testament to my dedication to growth and mastery. I had to draw upon the resilience and adaptability I had cultivated throughout my career, navigating new terrain and constantly evolving to meet the demands of a dynamic market.

Reflecting on this journey, I'm reminded of the words of the late Steve Jobs: "Stay hungry, stay foolish."

Complacency is the enemy of progress, and the only way to stay ahead of the curve is to embrace a growth mindset – a willingness to take risks, learn from failures, and constantly seek out new challenges.

Staying Relevant in a Rapidly Changing World

Today, we find ourselves in a world that is evolving at an unprecedented pace, driven by the rapid advancement of technologies like artificial intelligence and automation. It's a world where skills become obsolete rapidly, and the safe path often leads to stagnation.

In such a dynamic environment, the ability to adapt and continuously upskill is not just a luxury – it's a necessity. The same AI models disrupting industries today will be rendered outdated by smarter, more capable AI soon. Complacency isn't an option – for humans or machines.

So, how can you future-proof your career and stay ahead of the curve? Here are some strategies I've found invaluable:

Cultivate a growth mindset:

Embrace challenges as opportunities for growth, and view setbacks as valuable learning experiences. Develop a hunger for knowledge and a willingness to step outside your comfort zone.

Identify your growth stepping stones: Look for opportunities that may not be immediately lucrative but offer the chance to acquire new skills, gain exposure to different industries or cultures, or expand your network.

Invest in continuous learning:

Commit to ongoing professional development through formal education, industry certifications, online courses, or personal research. Stay up-to-date with emerging trends and technologies in your field.

Seek out diverse experiences: Look for opportunities to work with cross-functional teams, take on stretch assignments, or participate in projects that challenge you to think differently and approach problems from new angles.

Build a strong network:

Surround yourself with a diverse group of professionals, mentors, and thought leaders who can provide fresh perspectives, introduce you to new ideas and support your growth journey.

Remember, the path to sustained relevance isn't linear; it's a series of calculated leaps that require courage, adaptability, and an unwavering commitment to growth. Embrace the mindset of a lifelong learner, and you'll not only future-proof your career but also unlock a world of personal and professional fulfilment.

As we conclude this series, I leave you with a final thought: the only true constant in life is change.?

Embrace it, and you'll never become obsolete.

Leaving a well-paid job to start your business took huge bravery and belief in yourself. Your jump into entrepreneurship shows the importance of facing the unknown and learning I also connected with your point about the lasting value of "people skills" like communication, critical thinking, and problem-solving even as A.I grow. We often undervalue these unique human abilities that smart machines can't easily copy I feel inspired to step out of my comfort zone and double down on improving my skills
