As women, many of us carry a silent weight - limiting beliefs that constantly whisper to us:
?? I’m not enough
?? I’m unworthy
?? I’m powerless
?? I don't matter
?? I'm wrong
These whispers don’t start in a vacuum. Think about the last time you compared yourself to someone else - maybe a friend, a colleague, or even a stranger on social media. Did that comparison make you feel less worthy? Or recall a moment when someone dismissed your idea or questioned your ability. Over time, these experiences become the bricks that build the wall of limiting beliefs.
And the inner critic? Oh, it loves to build momentum. One failure becomes proof that you’re not enough. One rejection feels like evidence that you’re unworthy. But here’s the truth: these beliefs are not your reality. They’re simply stories you’ve been told - or told yourself.
But here's the question we must ask ourselves:
? Why do these beliefs persist, even in the most capable and accomplished women?
You Are Not to Blame
There could be many reasons for being like this. Being in an Asian society, we can even name a few.
?? Societal Expectations: Growing up, many of us were told to be 'good girls'. Be polite, don’t speak too loudly, and definitely don’t rock the boat. But here’s the thing - when you’re constantly told to fit into a mold, it’s easy to believe that stepping out of it makes you less worthy.
?? Cultural Conditioning: In Asian societies, there’s often an unspoken rule about what women “should” or “shouldn’t” do. Ambition? That’s fine, but don’t let it overshadow your family duties. Independence? Admirable, but make sure it’s not intimidating. These mixed messages create an impossible tightrope to walk.
?? Personal Experiences: Even well-meaning feedback can sting. Maybe someone once said, “You’re too sensitive.” or “Why can’t you be more like your sibling?” Over time, these words chip away at your confidence, leaving behind doubt.
These beliefs are like invisible chains - light enough to be ignored at times but heavy enough to slow us down when we try to move forward.
There comes a point when we have to ask ourselves:
? When do I stop believing these lies?
? When do I take charge of my own narrative?

The Journey to Transformation
Self-leadership isn’t about waiting for the perfect moment. It’s about stepping into courage, embracing your fears, and deciding that your story will no longer be written by those limiting beliefs.
Take these steps to move forward:
Repeat these steps for every limiting belief - take it one at a time and don't rush the process.
?? Remember:
Self-leadership isn’t about perfection; it is about giving yourself the permission to let go of the beliefs that no longer serve you. ??
Every step forward is a victory, no matter how small. Transforming your mindset is a process, but with self-leadership, you can break free from those invisible chains.
I know how hard it can be to rewrite these beliefs because I’ve been there. But here’s the thing - every step you take forward is a step toward freedom. You’re not alone in this journey, and you’re more powerful than you realize.
The journey to self-leadership is yours to take. Do you have an experience to share?
You Are Enough, Just as You Are
A coachee I had (let's call her Helen) started out by questioning herself at every step. She was a mid-level manager at a tech company, juggling her career and family while constantly feeling like she wasn’t doing enough. She’d stay silent in meetings, convinced that her relationships with colleagues weren’t strong enough to carry weight in the room. One day, after a particularly tough week, she realized she couldn’t keep living like this.
Her turning point came when she attended a strengths workshop. Helen discovered that her top strength was Relator - she had a natural ability to build deep, authentic connections. She realized that her quiet, one-on-one conversations with teammates had already earned their trust and respect. This gave her the courage to open up more in meetings, share her ideas, and even collaborate on new projects.
The lesson? Transformation begins when you stop letting those beliefs dictate your actions and start leading with your strengths.
