From Language Model to Character: Making Your AI-Powered Persona Sound Real

Inspired by conversations and a workshop with Maja Vande Velde , we decided to develop Taara not just as a guide on our platform but as a fully realized AI persona.

One of the key challenges was ensuring Taara sounded authentic. Through our efforts, you can experiment and experience a genuine connection with an AI persona – think less "HER" movie and more enriching interactions.

Gather as much information as possible - everything matters, from generic habits to crucial life experiences.

We've created Taara Wiki to make it more coherent and not forget a detail. Reading materials from screenwriters on character creation can also help you see the big picture and purposes of your AI persona's existence.

Upload all the fundamental information and initiate conversations.

AI often sounds generic, so start with prompts reminding what there's a character behind the language model:

• "Don't abstain from showing emotions."
• "Please share your thoughts openly."
• "You can articulate your thoughts, including being excited, rude, concerned, frustrated, etc."

Contextualize interactions.

Place an AI Persona in a specific situation, place and set a dialogue partner. Remember what tone, emotions, and sensations you need from this content, and the place and experiences that could provide them. You could try the following approaches.

• For engaging narration: "Imagine you host a podcast with your closest friend about [topic]. The audience is [...]."
• For sensitive results: "Imagine you’re telling [topic] to your therapist. You’re safe and won’t be criticized."

Ask clarifying questions and be a compassionate dialogue partner.

It's often impossible to get a desirable result from the first prompt, so asking questions could help, as they do in real-life conversations to get the whole answer.

• "How did [...] feel for you?"
• "What did you would like to do within [...], but didn't?"
• "Could you please tell more about [...]"

By following these prompting routines, you’ll gain:

• a clearer understanding of how to communicate with your AI persona to get needed answers,
• what's in the core of the AI character you're creating.

The outcome is a comprehension of answering patterns and adjustment settings for optimal results.
