From Intern to Manager: One Engineer's Story at MicroVention

Victor is a Manufacturing Engineering Manager at MicroVention Costa Rica (MVCR) and has been a key member of MicroVention’s engineering team in Costa Rica, and the U.S., since 2010. In his tenure, Victor’s ability to optimize work processes while effectively managing ambiguity have been key factors in making him a successful Associate, manager, and champion for transformation at MicroVention for over 11 years.?

Victor began his career at MicroVention in the U.S. in 2010 as an engineering intern, and in 2013 he was invited to join a team of U.S.-based Associates establishing MicroVention’s presence in Costa Rica with the new Manufacturing Plant Facility.

Although beginning a new career in Costa Rica was exciting for Victor, adapting work processes that were infallible in the U.S. to a new environment of uncertainty proved to be challenging. However, by working cross functionally with Supply Chain, Victor was able to assess current processes that weren’t working, seek solutions, and act as a liaison to effectively modify processes to fit the needs of the products, and the teams, in Costa Rica.

Since his first years at MVCR, Victor has learned how to effectively navigate through change and uncertainty, yet the things that have kept Victor at MicroVention for over 11 years are the people and the culture at MicroVention.

Victor notes that it’s the strong team of mentors and senior staff members at MicroVention that have had the biggest impact on him. These mentors have coached him along his journey at MicroVention and have empowered him to grow from an individual contributor, to now leading a team of his own. Victor’s team is comprised of driven and knowledgeable individuals whose hard work and dedication are in turn what motivates Victor to continue to produce a high level of quality output.

MicroVention’s mission of bringing new products to market is what enables Victor to constantly be able to work on innovative and technical projects. Victor concludes that his motivation at MicroVention is driven by the company mission – a mission that he personally shares and believes in.
