From an Indie Game Creator To A YouTube Creator !

Hello everyone !

I haven’t posted an article here in quite a while and thought I would share my experience so far with YouTube as a creator.

I started to make videos exactly 1 year ago and boy I thought this was going to be just one of those things I did for a little bit and then stop, however I have enjoyed creating content in video format more than I have enjoyed doing it in any other social media site such as twitter, Instagram, and Facebook.

When I started I didn’t realize that so many people would watch me in a video, specially when I knew I was horrible behind a camera, I knew I did not have enough experience so I kept on doing it again and again and again, and with time I wasn’t afraid of the camera and the camera became my community. I remember the first time I recorded a video and honestly I would screw up seconds into it, but I didn’t give up and kept going as I already mentioned.

As I learned about the setup of my camera I also learned how to record videos with my iPhone, how to export those videos to my Mac, how to polish the videos with adobe premier, how to market the videos in social media, how to improve my thumbnails, how to ask people for collaborations, and so on, I realized that it wasn’t going to be as easy but I needed to keep pushing myself to learn it all and improve step by step and day by day.

Overtime I learned to build habits, I knew that my advantage in my niche was composed of two main things:

1- Quality / Speed

I knew I needed to produce more content, better content than anyone in my niche, I compared the quality of other channels I compete with and improved my own quality, I instead was creating 2-3 videos per week versus 1 video every other week from other channels.

2- Consistency

I mentioned it above but this needs to be its own area, the reason is important to me is because consistency = results, it really does, there were days I was super tired, I would get home after 9 hours of work and then play with my 2 kids, I would then spend time with my wife and wait for them to fall sleep, yeap once they would go to bed I would just run directly to my office to create videos. I did this over and over, I still do it today and many weekends I opt to do this on times when I have free time for myself, so yes consistency is a huge factor in my grow which I believe can still be improved.

So why do I write all of this ? Well because I was one person who started with 0 and I would have wished to know more about it in advanced, however I didn’t and that’s ok because going through this experience has been the most rewarding thing I have done ??

I would love to hear everyones experience here and use this entry to help each other by sharing helpful insights.

Thanks

Dilmer
