From Housewife to CEO: My Journey in a Logistics Empire - Key Lessons for Young Women Professionals. 'Barkha Agarwal'

To be honest this is one of my most answered questions and also is my favorite question. When I think about my journey from a housewife to becoming the CEO of Jet Trade & Logistics, I’m reminded of the pivotal lessons that have shaped my path. If I could offer advice to young women professionals just starting out, these would be the key 10 takeaways I’d want to share with everyone.

1. Believe in Yourself, Even When Others Don’t

Confidence is everything. In the beginning, when I took the leap into business, there were plenty of doubts—both from others and myself. But I chose to trust in my abilities. Self-belief is the foundation of success, and the moment you start believing in yourself, others will follow suit.

2. Never Stop Learning

Learning is a continuous process. You don’t have to know everything at the start, but you need to be committed to growing every single day. Whether it’s learning new skills, keeping up with industry trends, or getting out of your comfort zone, you’ll never know what new ideas and opportunities are just around the corner.

3. Invest in Yourself & Your Team

Self-development is key, and investing in the growth of your team is equally important. Never underestimate the power of education and skill development—not just for you, but for everyone who works with you. This builds a culture of growth and loyalty, which is critical for any business.

4. Network, Network, Network This was one of my biggest realizations after starting my own business: Networking matters more than advertising. Building genuine relationships, learning from others, and opening yourself up to new opportunities is invaluable. It’s the connections you make that can open doors you never knew existed.

5. Resilience is a Non-Negotiable In business, setbacks are inevitable. There were countless moments where I felt frustrated and drained, but resilience is what kept me going. It’s not just about bouncing back—it’s about bouncing forward, learning from each challenge, and finding the strength to push through. Challenges will come, but learning how to handle them gracefully is what sets successful leaders apart.

6. Embrace Technology Technology isn’t just a tool; it’s a game-changer. Whether it’s automating processes or using digital platforms to streamline operations, adopting technology is essential for scaling and staying competitive. Don’t shy away from it—embrace it and understand how you can leverage it to optimize your work and your business.

7. Work-Life Balance is Key Don’t get caught up in the pursuit of perfection. Balance is what you need. Yes, work hard, but don’t forget to carve out time for yourself and for your loved ones. Striving for perfection can lead to burnout, but learning to balance work with life will allow you to stay fulfilled and energised.

8. Leadership is About Empathy True leadership is not about barking orders from the top—it’s about understanding, supporting, and inspiring your team. Empathy is the key to building trust and fostering a positive, productive work environment. Take the time to listen and care for those you lead.

9. Take Risks and Learn From Them

Don’t be afraid of taking calculated risks. Whether it’s trying a new strategy or stepping into a new market, you’ll learn something valuable every time. Sometimes, the most significant growth happens when you step into the unknown.

10. Never Compromise on Integrity

In business, integrity is everything. No matter how difficult things get, always stay true to your values. Don’t cut corners, and don’t compromise on ethics. The road to success is never easy, but walking it with integrity ensures that you build something that lasts.

From housewife to CEO, the journey has been anything but linear, but every step has been worth it. If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s this: You are the master of your destiny. If you believe in yourself, never stop learning, and surround yourself with a team that shares your vision, there’s no limit to what you can achieve.

To all the young women out there: Don’t hold yourself back. Your potential is limitless, and the world is waiting for your leadership. Support the women around you. Encourage them, uplift them, and create spaces where they can grow along with you.
