From Grounding to New Hights

"From Grounding to New Hights - Crisis Management at Lufthansa" was the topic of my keynote yesterday at the Campus for Finance at WHU in Vallendar. In addition to the issues that affected us during the crisis and how we managed them, a central focus was the outlook for the future. We are moving in a world that is significantly characterized by Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity, Ambiguity (VUCA). The term VUCA is not new. It has already played a role for several decades, but never with the intensity it has now. The aviation industry faces many different challenges, but also opportunities in 2023, and it is our task as Lufthansa Airlines to deal with them and take advantage of them. In doing so, our focus is on the stability of operations in order to increase the satisfaction of our customers and thus our profitability. We are starting 2023 with this aspiration and have set ourselves ambitious goals that we will now achieve, despite the prevailing VUCA.

In addition to these topics, however, the exchange with the students was an important and inspiring part. I had the chance to talk to students after the keynote, to answer questions and to discuss. Here, I was very pleased to see the interest in the aviation industry and Lufthansa in particular. My goal was to get young people excited about our product, about our brand, and to give them a look behind the scenes, beyond the images shown in the public and social media.
