From Generation to Generation

Each morning those wonderful pages of the New Testament provide an exciting new promise that I am privileged to keep company with throughout the remainder of the day.

As I gather those promises and reflect upon them again and again, they nourish my spiritual life and they become a fountain to which I return for renewal and refreshment.

I often wonder how many others across the generations have been sustained and encouraged by those very same promises.  Who are the generations before my time who found these very promises that minister to my inner life and provided strength and hope in their critical times?

I am reminded of an old historic tree as a young child we gathered under for protection in the storm and shelter in the heat; we used to wonder how many had proceeded us and found refuge under the giant oak that offered us its protecting presence.

The promises of God have shielded the generations, and now I am privileged to gather under the outstretched branches of those giant but gentle promises as they provide for my life, in my time, spiritual serenity and a sense of divine destiny.
