Have you ever felt like a fraud? I certainly have.
For the longest time, I downplayed my success to luck. I'd often need to remember the hard work I had put into building my expertise. It wasn't until I learned about imposter syndrome that I realised I wasn't alone.
Imposter syndrome can affect high-achieving professionals and entrepreneurs. It can be challenging to overcome. But there are ways to work through it, especially if you want to reach your full potential.
Here are four things I wish I knew while dealing with imposter syndrome:
1?? Self-Awareness:
To deal with imposter syndrome, having self-awareness is key. This means owning all of yourself - understanding your strengths and weaknesses. Knowing what you're good at and where to improve can help you reduce feelings of inadequacy.
For a long time, I had a habit of downplaying my achievements.
As I developed a better sense of self-awareness, I realised that being overly humble was holding me back. To help me overcome this tendency, I started treating my LinkedIn profile as a living resume. Whenever I felt unworthy, I read it aloud to remind myself of my accomplishments. This simple practice helped me to appreciate my abilities more. As I learned to trust myself and my capabilities, I overcame my feelings of imposter syndrome.
2?? Rewire Your Brain:
Another step to dealing with imposter syndrome is to rewire your brain to avoid negative self-talk. It all starts with having a basic respect for yourself. It's about owning who you are.
Remember, you are not an imposter, and you have achieved what you have achieved because of your hard work, dedication, and talent. Instead of letting your voice of self-doubt and negativity take control, take control of your narrative and focus on your strengths and accomplishments. Celebrate your wins and use them to build your confidence.
By practising this mindset shift, you can rewire your brain to embrace positivity and overcome imposter syndrome.
The next time you catch yourself saying "I don't deserve this," mentally slap yourself. Remind yourself of all the hard work you have put in to be where you are today: "I'm doing great. I deserve to feel proud of my achievements".
3?? Use Social Media:
Using social media, like LinkedIn, to create content and share your thoughts can be a powerful way to overcome imposter syndrome. When you share your knowledge and experience with others, it can help you realise how much you have to offer.

When you receive feedback online, be open to improvements.
I used to take it defensively when people would go into my DMs and point out my typos. But since I've rewired my brain, I took it as an opportunity to grow. So now, I appreciate those who take the time to point out my grammar and typos. As a result, we have gained free proofreaders. Especially if you want a growing audience, you want them to actively engage with you and your work.
4?? Build Confidence:
Overcoming imposter syndrome requires building up your confidence. When you trust in yourself and your abilities, it becomes easier to dismiss the feeling of unworthiness.
Remember, failure doesn't define you or make you a fraud.
Failure is a natural part of the learning process. They can provide you with valuable lessons for personal and professional growth. Don't let fear of failure hold you back from taking risks and pursuing your goals. Instead, embrace it as an opportunity to learn and improve, and use your confidence as a guide to reaching your full potential.
When I first started my entrepreneurial journey, my initial projects failed. I poured all my energy and resources into them but they didn't work out. However, with each failure, I learned valuable lessons and gained more confidence in my abilities. I used the experience to reflect on what went wrong and how I could improve. As a result, I was able to approach future projects with more determination and a renewed sense of purpose.
Recap: Remember to own your successes, celebrate your accomplishments, and trust in yourself.
Overcoming imposter syndrome can be a daunting task, but it is achievable. By embracing self-awareness, rewiring negative self-talk, utilising social media to express yourself, and building confidence, you can work towards overcoming imposter syndrome and unlocking your true potential.
Remember to acknowledge and celebrate your successes and not let setbacks define you. Trust in your abilities and believe in yourself.

Looking inwardly has truly helped me grow outwards tremendously as I look at my strengths and improve on weaknesses to overcome any self doubt that may as have no room for that.
