From Foundations to Futures: A Transformative Trip with READ Foundation

I had the pleasure to visit READ Foundation PK. Baking in the 45 degrees heat, now my head has had time to cool down, here are some of my reflections to summarise my thoughts.?

Throughout our journey, the hospitality extended by the READ Foundation staff, and the local communities was nothing short of exceptional. At Dobay School, the teachers cooked meals at home for the school build donors and all of us and brought it to the school for us to enjoy. Everywhere we went, we were met with warmth, generosity, and a genuine eagerness to share their culture. The hearty traditional breakfasts were a particular highlight, featuring an array of delicious dishes that provided the perfect start to our days. We also enjoyed an abundance of fresh, flavorful mangoes and watermelons alhamdulillah, which were both refreshing and a delightful treat in the warm weather. This gracious hospitality and the delectable local cuisine added an extra layer of richness to our visit, making it an even more memorable and enriching experience. And we didn't have any issues with our stomachs!! :D

Embracing Hope and Transformation: My Journey with READ Foundation in Pakistan

Recently, I had the profound privilege of embarking on a transformative journey to Pakistan with READ Foundation, a trip that showcased the remarkable impact of education in some of the country's most deprived communities. This journey was more than a visit; it was an eye-opening experience that highlighted the extraordinary achievements possible through the power of education and the generosity of UK donors.

Building Futures, One Brick at a Time

Our first stop was a newly completed school, built entirely by donations from the UK. Walking through its halls, I felt a surge of pride and hope. This institution stood as a testament to what can be achieved when people come together with a common purpose. It was inspiring to see the tangible results of the donors' generosity—a fully functional school that will educate and empower future generations.

From Foundations to Near Completion

We then visited several other construction sites at various stages of development, from the earliest foundations to nearly completed structures. Some of these projects were located in remote rural areas, highlighting READ Foundation's commitment to reaching the most underserved communities. Witnessing these developments firsthand, it was clear that every brick laid was a step towards a brighter future for countless children.

A Warm Welcome at Bhimber Girls College

Our visit to Bhimber Girls College was particularly memorable. The warm welcome we received was matched by the incredible work being done in science and robotics by the students. Not only were?they doing remarkable work, but they demonstrated confidence in presenting their work with a sense of accomplishment and pride.? It was astonishing to see such advanced projects coming from a school in a deprived community. The dedication of the teachers and the enthusiasm of the students were palpable, proving that talent and potential know no bounds.? This college is also to be relocated to a new facility that will further enhance their strong will to be change makers of the future.? A true case study that embodies everything the Empower Her campaign is set out to achieve.?

An Emotional Opening in Dobay

One of the most touching moments of the trip was attending the opening of a new school in Dobay, constructed as a sadaqa jariyah project by a donor in memory of his late father and for his mother. The donor, who wishes to remain anonymous, attended with his mother, hand in hand.? The mother explained why this was extremely powerful and emotional for her, besides the obvious reason her son had just built a school in her?honour, that she had to drop out of school due to not having the funds when she was a child.??

The joy and pride on the faces of the students in their new uniforms were heartwarming. The new school not only boosted the students' confidence but also brought visible happiness to the teachers, who were thrilled to have such a supportive environment to educate their students.

Picturesque Journeys and Heartwarming Stories

Our journey took us through the picturesque landscapes of Muzaffarabad and included a delightful breakfast in the Murree mountains. These serene moments of natural beauty provided a perfect backdrop to reflect on the impactful work being done.

A New Commitment Born Out of Inspiration

During our visit, we were joined by a donor from the UK, whose experience on this trip became a catalyst for further generosity. Deeply moved by the visible impact of READ Foundation's work, the donor made a heartfelt commitment to build a new school. We visited the site of the proposed school and met the local donor who had donated the land, a remarkable act of kindness as it represented a third of his total assets. This new school will be a game-changer for the local community, ensuring that students will no longer have to travel 10 kilometers every morning to attend classes. The accessibility of this new school will not only ease the burden on these young learners but also significantly boost attendance and educational outcomes, underscoring the profound ripple effect of philanthropic actions.

Celebrating Success and Community Contribution

The trip concluded with visits to alumni of READ schools, now flourishing as teachers, doctors, and entrepreneurs. Their stories were a powerful reminder of the long-term impact of education. These individuals are not only succeeding in their own right but are also giving back to their communities, embodying the very essence of sustainable development.

Reflection

This trip with READ Foundation was a profound reminder of the transformative power of education and the boundless potential it unlocks. It reinforced the importance of continued support and investment in educational projects, particularly in underserved areas. The smiles, the joy, and the tangible progress witnessed throughout this journey were testament to the incredible difference that education, backed by philanthropy, can make.

As I return, I carry with me not just memories, but a renewed commitment to supporting such initiatives. READ Foundation's work is not just changing individual lives; it is building stronger, more resilient communities. This experience has been a powerful affirmation that together, we can indeed change the world, one school, one student, at a time
