From growing up in foster care to pursuing a career in HR, my personal journey is one that defies all odds and inspires hope. In the face of adversity, I overcame barriers, earned a bachelor's degree with honours, lived abroad in Ireland for two years, and continue to pave the way for others showing them what's possible. My story exemplifies resilience, determination, and the invaluable contributions that individuals from the child welfare system can bring to the workplace.
Breaking Barriers and Overcoming Adversity:
At the age of four, I entered the Canadian foster care system, faced with uncertainty and challenges that no child should bear. Despite being told by a psychologist at the age of nine that I would never amount to anything, I refused to let that verdict define me and embarked on a journey to prove them wrong.
Achieving a Bachelor's Degree:
With strong motivation and a burning desire to succeed, I continued pursuing higher education. In 2018, I graduated with an Advanced Diploma in Human Resources Management from Durham College getting both President's Honour Roll and a Leadership Award. I then decided to finish my undergraduate degree in Ireland and graduated in 2019 with a Bachelor of Business (Hons.) in Human Resources Management from South East Technological University . Through countless hours of dedication and perseverance, I not only obtained my degree but did so with first-class honours distinction. My academic accomplishments stand as a testament to my ability to thrive in the face of adversity. I have shown that with determination and resilience, anything is possible.
Value to the Workplace:
Employers in 2023 are recognizing the value of #diversity, #equity, #inclusion and #belongingness. In my case, my life journey equips me with invaluable qualities and skills that make me an asset to organizations looking to leave a positive impact on society. The ability to break through barriers, navigate complexity, and overcome obstacles demonstrates my resilience, adaptability, and problem-solving abilities. Furthermore, my firsthand experience in the foster care system instills a deep understanding of the importance of support, empathy, and inclusivity in the workplace. Having worked at companies including 亚马逊 and Neo Financial, I have been able to empathize with and support team members at every stage of the employee lifecycle.

Shout Out to Children's Aid Foundation of Canada :
In mid-June, I attended my last YPAC meeting of my two-year term. I am grateful to the Children's Aid Foundation of Canada for providing a voice to lived experts within the foster care system. Advocating for children and youth in the system, as well as those transitioning, has been a rewarding experience. I am honoured to have had the opportunity to be a part of it and look forward to seeing how their contribution will pave the way for more people from the child welfare system to become successful.
