From Field to Final Report: MMT's Data Processors Provide Valuable Support for Operators and NDE Providers

Under the PHMSA Gas Mega Rule, pipeline data collection for reputable records is more important than ever. Both operators and NDE providers understand the critical need to secure accurate material properties data and TVC records. Data Services Manager, Yasamin Salamat, leads MMT's data services team, which assists customers in meeting these regulations and provides highly accurate data and reporting services.

About the Process

The data collection process begins when a field technician uses MMT's HSD 8000 non-destructive tester, which works in conjunction with the MMTConnect? software. MMTConnect? provides significant process control and guides field technicians through each step of a complete testing sample, reducing the risk of human error. If technical issues arise during the assessment, MMT's Technical Support Team automatically receives a support document for review and troubleshooting. This is a unique, beneficial service that MMT is proud to offer HSD 8000 users.

“It is a very helpful tool for technicians, for us, and for operators,” Salamat said.

Once the test is complete, the data rapidly uploads to a secure MMT database for storage and quality assessment. The MMTConnect? database enables a very fast and efficient review of customer data, enabling MMT to assist with any requested R&D. The database can sort for specific criteria and create assessments such as year-end summaries. Customers can even upload valuable documents to MMTConnect? for quick communication and organized collaboration. If the test data is consistent and reliable, the reporting process begins.

High-Quality Reporting for Reliable Results

Generated reports go through assessments with Level I and Level II reviewers to ensure top quality.

Customers then receive two reports: a preliminary material verification report that processes within just 48 business hours after the sample test and a final material verification report that sends ten business days after a completed job.

The preliminary report provides timely feedback on the NDE measured tensile strength and longitudinal seam type based on an initial review of data collected, including geometry, location, surface tensile properties, and seam characteristics. The final material verification report contains valuable information about final NDE measured material properties, including Yield, UTS, seam type classification, chemical composition, and grain size. MMT's data service team, headed by Yasamin Salamat, is currently working to make these turnaround times even faster.

“We are working on a procedure that can provide the preliminary results automatically through MMTConnect?. Instead of [our team] reviewing the data and providing that preliminary report, MMTConnect? will automatically review the data and provide results to the customer at a much faster scale,” Salamat said.

Salamat began her MMT career as an intern in 2019 and eventually earned her data services oversight role in 2022. As a Senior Level II Reviewer, Yasamin can quickly generate and send reports immediately to customers. Her expertise plays a tremendous role in the training and certification of Level I and II Reviewers, positively impacting MMT's data services efficiency and the customer experience. The team provides support to customers even beyond the final report release to answer any additional questions about the procedure, collected data, and reported values.
