From Fear to Freedom

From Fear to Freedom

Reflecting on a Year of Good Girl Deprogramming

This time last year, I was preparing to release Good Girl Deprogramming into the world. It was one of the most vulnerable moments of my life. The book was deeply personal, and the thought of sharing it with others - especially fellow professionals like psychologists, therapists, and coaches - was almost terrifying. I braced myself for criticism, convinced that my colleagues would pick it apart.

But something remarkable happened. Instead of critique, I was met with validation and support. These professional women not only resonated with the book’s message but became some of its biggest advocates. One psychologist told me, “This book is a game-changer - it articulates what so many of us have felt but struggled to put into words.” A coach I REALLY admire shared, “I bought this book for all my clients. It’s an essential resource for anyone looking to break free from societal expectations.” I might have done a little excited dance for that one.

Over the past year, I’ve had the privilege of delivering workshops, giving talks, and facilitating discussions with hundreds of people - both women and men - on breaking free from the constraints of societal conditioning. The feedback from these sessions has been incredible. One participant wrote, “Your workshop helped me realise how much I’ve been holding myself back. I feel more empowered to take control of my life.” Another commented, “For the first time, I understand why I’ve felt so drained trying to meet everyone’s expectations. Thank you for giving me permission to stop.”

I also launched the Good Girl Deprogramming podcast, which has opened up even more opportunities to explore these ideas and connect with a wider audience. Hearing from listeners who have found comfort and inspiration in these conversations has been deeply rewarding.

And now, I’m diving into my next project: researching and writing Good Girl Deprogramming at Work. This book will tackle how “Good Girl” conditioning impacts women in the workplace, exploring why high-achieving girls and women often face unique challenges when they enter the professional world.

If there’s one thing I’ve learned through this journey, it’s that holding back helps no one. The fear of criticism, while natural, shouldn’t stop you from sharing your work. If you have something to say, say it. If you have a story to tell, tell it. The world desperately needs your voice, your ideas, and your perspective.

Looking back, I’m so glad I didn’t let fear win. And I can’t wait to see what the next chapter brings. So, my advice to anyone on the edge of putting their work out there?

Take the leap!

The world is ready for you - even if you’re not quite ready for it. ??

And What Else is Happening?

1. Good Girl Deprogramming Podcast

In this special episode to celebrate the first anniversary of the book, I sit down with my amazing publisher - Nicola Humber, founder of The Unbound Press and author of Heal Your Inner Good Girl. We dive deep into the messy, magical process of writing, how “Good Girl” conditioning shows up in creativity, and why embracing your “too muchness” is the ultimate act of rebellion. Nicola shares her own journey, from navigating corporate life to empowering women to write unapologetically, while I reflect on my experience bringing Good Girl Deprogramming to life.

Whether you’re dreaming of writing a book or simply want to live more authentically, this episode is packed with insights and inspiration to help you break free from societal expectations and unleash your full potential.

You can find it on all the usual podcasting platforms or on YouTube -

?? Happy 1st Birthday to Good Girl Deprogramming! ??

This time last year, I nervously sent my book out into the world, unsure of how it would be received. Fast forward 12 months, and I’m blown away by the journey it’s taken me on. From incredible feedback from professional women, to delivering workshops and talks for hundreds of people, and even launching the Good Girl Deprogramming podcast - this year has been nothing short of transformative.

To celebrate, the Kindle version of Good Girl Deprogramming is on sale for just 99p/99c this week only! I’m also excited to share that I’m deep into research for book number two, Good Girl Deprogramming at Work. Thank you for being part of this journey! ?

That’s it from me.

Hope to see you Thursday!

Lots of love,

Mx
