From Fargo to Key Largo and Everywhere In Between

From Fargo to Key Largo and Everywhere In Between

Hello friends and happy new year! The winter Ag meeting schedule has me hopping from the tundra to the Florida Keys. While I certainly don’t enjoy the frigid temperatures in Winnipeg, Sioux Falls, Iowa City, or Wausau, I always remember those in production Ag who work in the elements. Hats off to our livestock producers. These -30 windchills take me back to the dairy farm where keeping water flowing and teats from freezing was a daunting task. Stay warm, stay sane, and stay safe.

Feeling Your Oats??

In December I spoke to the Prairie Oat Growers Association. Did you know:?

  • 87% of oats produced go to human consumption. Horses only eat 13% of the oat crop.?
  • Canada is the second largest global oat producer behind Russia, but Canada is the biggest exporter of oats.?
  • 80% of Canada’s oats end up in the USA, as snack bars, cereal etc… Eat your Cheerios!

Want to hear more about oats? Give this a listen!?

I sat down with my oat producing friends from north of the border — John and Riley — to talk oats. They’re good dudes even if we disagree on the validity of oat “milk.” I say there’s only one milk fit for human consumption and that’s whole milk, from a cow, with chocolate added to it.?
