From Executive Director of Communications for Sydney’s 2000 Olympic Bid to Senior Agency Lead, Meet Ian Dose

For over 27 years, Sharon Williams has created an environment at her Sydney based agency, Taurus where young and inexperienced can work alongside seasoned experts to collaborate and provide the best possible solutions for brands. Sharon has cultivated a team that shares the same core values, where family and flexibility is not a ‘dirty’ word but one that is encouraged and supported.

In the latest interview for TaurusTV?, seasoned journalist and communications expert, Ian Dose, shares his experience of working for Taurus for more than 3 years, working alongside a dynamic team of young professionals.

?“Taurus provides wonderful opportunities for people,” says Ian. “It provides an opportunity for young blood and old minds to come together and provide creative solutions and sage advice to our clients.”

?Ian’s impressive career includes working for the Olympics as the Head of Communications to working with government ministers as a speech writer and political advisor. He later helped setup the Black Dog Institute, an organisation that helps people who suffer with depression and mood disorders.

?When it comes to valuing her team and their unique skills, Sharon is quick to share her gratitude for what Ian brings to the table.

?“I’ve got a wing man and one of the highlights for me is when Ian calls up and he seems to have a telepathic barometer of what’s happening with the business and what I need and what the clients need’’.

?Providing opportunities for mentorship and career guidance is a core function of TaurusAcademy?, a division of the company that Sharon developed to help leverage the expertise of senior team members such as Ian, to bring younger ones up and offer them a platform where they can grow and develop as professionals.

?“I look at what the alumni who worked with us straight out of university are doing now and also the working mums and dads who have come from totally different industries, those people we have sponsored from overseas, and I’m hugely proud. I hope that all of those that have been through the Taurus experience are going to say ‘hey that was really terrific and fundamental to my growth as an individual” Sharon says.

?As one such mentor, Ian acknowledges the unique opportunity to collaborate with younger team members at the start of their career.

?“Taurus is a place that mentors the next generation of people who will work in this industry, and beyond. I think that what you do get is acknowledgement that family, professional, culture and work life balance is part of you being the best professional you can possibly be…

?“Here we are in a TV studio, 27th level of a skyscraper looking out across Darling Harbour, a far cry from when I was starting out in journalism, sitting on telephone books as a chair and punching away on an old-fashioned typewriter. I have to pinch myself basically, that this is Taurus.”
