From Engineer to Marketing Manager: What I learned Through The Journey

Great accomplishments come out of teamwork “When the thinkers & the doers join hands”
It's true that sales and marketing don’t get on. But it’s also true that when sales and marketing work together, miracles could happen and companies can see business growth. The war will only end when both teams understand that they are working to grow the company. Both want more customers, brand awareness and profit. While each team takes a different route, ultimately everyone is heading in the same direction. So make sure to communicate, walk in each other’s shoes, educate each other on your differences, truly appreciate what each other has to offer, focus your efforts on pushing your brand forward and you may witness the start of a beautiful friendship.
Marketing is still misunderstood
The marketing department is not a support department. It is a strategy department. It's responsible for articulating the brand. If every company’s goal is about growth and reducing the risk around anything that threatens that growth, strong marketing strategies are really the way forward. Unfortunately, the way marketing has come to be defined and executed is to blame. These days, what most people consider marketing is really simply advertising, email, content or a tool for generating awareness.
But marketing is much more than that, it’s about the future of the brand, about getting ready in the first place by creating a new market or expanding an existing one; developing or understanding how it will fit into customers’ needs, wants, values, and lives; and building a powerful customer experience & loyalty. Nowadays, as business continues to be driven by innovation and digital revolution, marketing “The Thinkers” must be embraced as a core business strategy and valued more than ever.
Success is about the journey, the people not the job title and salary
In my worst professionally moments when I felt like I'm not valued or demotivated, I’ve been able to find the true meaning of success and that’s through the love for everything I’ve done, the difference that I've made in people's lives and the people who truly believed in me. So keep going, believe in yourself, make sure to enjoy the journey and getting as much out of it as you can is where really “success” lies.

5 年Well written, Heba! And I fully support your thinking here. Customer Experience is the common goal, and understanding how all the touch points work together to get there must be the very nature of a value adding function that faces the market. As both Marketing and Sales do. Mutual respect and understanding is key.
