From Doubt to Action: Unleash Your Potential by Crushing Self-Doubt

From Doubt to Action: Unleash Your Potential by Crushing Self-Doubt

I couldn't help but marvel at how quickly time seemed to pass by. It's almost unbelievable that just a short while ago, I was enjoying my birthday with family and friends, and now we're already nearing the end of the first quarter of this year. As this realization dawned on me, I decided to reflect on the progress I have made toward achieving my set goals thus far. It would be dishonest to say that I am flawlessly "killing it" every step of the way. But instead of giving up or feeling bad about it, now is an ideal opportunity for re-evaluation.

If you're still reading this, chances are you're eager to know my progress report. But first, take a pause and reflect. How far have you gone with your plans? Not so far? What is hindering you? Do you struggle with yourself more than you create solutions to the other external factors holding you back? If reading these words resonates within you, then understand something profound – You Are Capable!

Allow me to be your self-acclaimed motivational speaker for the sake of this piece, and please, before you swipe, I think you should know that I have every bragging right to do so because I started my YouTube channel recently! It was a battle because I constantly questioned my abilities and wondered if anyone would even be interested in what I had to say. I had no experience in filming or editing videos, and I was scared of being judged by others. Nonetheless, I HIT the record button and I am glad I did.

Yes, my first videos were far from perfect. But with each upload, I learned more about filming and editing, and I grew more confident in my abilities. Here are the steps I took to overcome self-doubt:

  1. I identified the source of the self-doubt and questioned them by asking myself, "What evidence do I have to support these doubts?", and "Is there any evidence that contradicts these doubts?"
  2. I challenged those self-limiting beliefs by reframing my thoughts. Instead of thinking - "I'm not good enough," I started telling myself-"I am capable of learning and improving."
  3. I reached out to people who inspired me and aired my plan and fears to them and got their support. This action boosted my morale by 100%
  4. Finally, I took action by hitting the record button and filming videos.

So, to all of YOU, self-starters, don't let the fear of doubt and imperfection hold you back. Take that first step, keep going, and remember, nobody starts as an expert. Embrace the journey and the lessons that come with it because, in the end, it is those imperfections that make your journey unique and inspiring.

I'm sure I'd be happy when I see my Q1 progress report because I rock!

Fascinating that when left unchecked, our self-doubt can hijack our brain. We find talking about it captivating so much more than talking about how confident we are. We naturally tend to focus on negative experiences or potential failures more intensely than positive ones. This bias, known as negativity bias, evolved as a survival mechanism to help us detect and respond to threats in our environment. However, in modern society, it can manifest as an excessive fixation on our shortcomings and mistakes. I applaud your approach as you course corrected as you went, staying objective by looking for evidence to support doubting thoughts and attending to your needs by reaching out to others. By cultivating self-compassion, challenging negative self-talk, and focusing on our strengths and achievements, we can start to diminish the captivation of self-doubt. Your approach really highlights how embracing a growth mindset and seeking support from trusted individuals contributes to building resilience and confidence.
