"If thou are not versed in the business of adventures, get thee aside and pray.... Whilst I engage these giants in combat" Don Quixote...
This is a quote from the "Adventures of Don Quixote" by Miguel De Cervantes. In the book, the eponymous hero imagines himself to be fighting giants when he attacks windmills. The novel recounts the exploits of would-be knight 'Don Quixote' and his loyal servant Sancho Panza who propose to fight injustice through chivalry.
Sancho Panza - The poor farmer turned esquire is surprised and replies "What giants?"
"Those you see over there," replied Don Quixote...his master, "with their long arms. Some of them have arms well nigh two leagues in length."
"Take care, sir," cried Sancho. "Those over there are not giants but windmills. Those things that seem to be their arms are sails which, when they are whirled around by the wind, turn the millstone."
So From President Donald Trump of America to Don Quixote of La Mancha,Spain....they are...Tilting at Windmills...Imaginary Enemies!
As humorous as it can be, it is also sheer incorrect, baseless and misleading information passed on by the American President few days ago on #windturbines while referring to #windpower generation. He said...
"It is very expensive
"Tremendous fumes and gases are spewing into the atmosphere"
"They are noisy. They kill the birds"...
All that he said does surprise to me as he is more of a ranting politician and less of a responsible president. Fortunately neither facts nor figures agree to whatever he said and the same was completely disproved within no time.
1. Wind turbines kill far fewer birds than cats, buildings or cars. Here are the facts....
https://www.counterpunch.org/2019/12/27/president-trumps-baseless-attacks-on-wind-power/
So Cats and not #Windturbines are the No. 1 bird killer by a long shot, with an estimated 2.4 billion bird deaths annually.
2. Kansas CO2 Emissions Are At Their Lowest Level In 40 Years - Here is why....
https://www.kcur.org/post/heres-why-kansas-co2-emissions-are-their-lowest-level-40-years
So largely due to the rapid adoption of wind energy, the emissions declined by 27%
3. It is very expensive.
Wind is now the cheapest source of new electric generating capacity in many parts of the country, according to sources like Wall Street investment firm Lazard Inc. and established technical authorities on wind energy.
https://www.aweablog.org/fact-check-setting-record-straight-president-trumps-recent-wind-comments/
The advantages of Wind energy far outweigh the disadvantages. Among them are that wind being a natural phenomenon, harvesting its power is a clean, a very low-polluting way of generating electricity as compared to coal and other fossil fuels. I will reveal many more pros of Wind turbines and the Wind energy generation at some other time.
But for now the important fact is - Transitioning to wind and solar is the cleanest and lowest-cost path moving forward.
So I am going to be the Sancho Panza in 2020 and say it aloud to the world that those are not giants but benign #WindMills with their beneficial#Windpower.
What about you?
