Hello!
My name is Swati Sonaji Kolpekwar. As a dentist trained in India, I know firsthand the challenges faced by an international dentist when I got married and moved to the US to live with my husband. I am writing this post to share my story when I moved to the United States and how I transitioned from Dentistry to IT. There are few things worse than moving to a new country and realizing to begin your professional education/career from scratch as my professional accreditation did not travel with me. I found myself in that predicament Faced with multiple options in the USA, I had to quickly determine my priorities.
I was lost on the verge of giving up on the idea. But I didn’t. I decided to take matters into my own hands, and I decided to transition my carrier from dentistry to IT. And after 1-year of countless sleepless nights, buckets of crying, hundreds of emails, numerous SOP and CV edits, 3 failures, and tons of mistakes, I finally made it. I got offered a master’s in information technology and management from 3 Universities in the USA.
The stress, the mess and the tears shed could have been much less if I only had some direction to begin with. So don't believe what everyone tells you. You need a good GPA (evaluated by ECE/WES), strong CV and a great statement of purpose and letter of recommendation. You must really show them how sincerely enthusiastic you are about the specialty you are applying for.

Overcoming Challenges
Here are some common obstacles and strategies to overcome them:
1. Steep Learning Curve: IT, especially areas like software development or cybersecurity, involves complex concepts that might initially seem overwhelming.
2. Imposter Syndrome: Moving into a new field can make you doubt your abilities, especially when surrounded by peers with more experience.
3. Balancing Work and Study: If you’re transitioning while still working in dentistry, balancing your current job with learning new IT skills can be challenging.
4. Financial Considerations: Investing in courses, certifications, or a degree can be expensive.
