From the Dean's Desk: September 2024
We made it to September and the halls of McCool are full again. I have enjoyed seeing activity back on the drill field and throughout the buildings on campus. We kicked off the return to campus with some of my favorite events: Donuts with the Dean as we welcome new students to McCool Hall and dinner with faculty, staff, and families as we welcome them back to the start of a new semester.
We have a busy fall planned for the College of Business and as we get started, I want to call your attention to a bit of news to close out the summer:
Dr. Lu He, Supply Chain Logistics Instructor, received a $500 mini-grant from MSU’s Center for Community-Engaged Learning. Since 2023, Dr. He has collaborated with PACCAR’s Material Handling Department to provide real, hands-on learning opportunities. Several students have secured internships and job offers from PACCAR based on these projects.
The fall Live Case Course (LCC) in Supply Chain Logistics will again offer students a dynamic, hands-on learning experience visiting and working with the Taylor Group of Companies. Students will also travel to Savannah, GA, to tour the country's fourth busiest container port and other operational facilities. These immersive experiences provide students with invaluable insights into global supply chain logistics and significantly enhance their problem-solving skills and industry readiness.
Freshman/sophomore Marketing Majors are experiencing a new 1-credit hour course designed to engage, educate and excite. Co-taught by Ms. Emily Stokes, Instructor of Marketing, and Dr. Robert Moore, Professor of Marketing, this hands-on course embraces the Bulldog Business Experience— equipping students with the foundational knowledge and skills necessary for a successful start to their academic journey in the College of Business.
Most everyone has heard of supply chain, but few understand what it is, mainly because the answer differs by industry. The Maroon & White Supply Chain Roundtable (September 17th), sponsored by CAT Global, is an opportunity for businesses recruiting at the Career Expo to explain to students what they mean when they say SC, and to network with interested students in relaxed surroundings.
