"From Corporate Climb to Healing Hearts: Embracing Change at 32"

At 32, I made the bold decision to leave my role as a Service Delivery Manager at Accenture to pursue my passion for psychotherapy in the USA. This journey led me to earn my associate's degree, attend classes alongside students half my age, join sororities, and publish articles for Counseling Today. I completed my master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and Addictions Counseling, became EMDR trained, and established my own private practice, focusing on veterans. This transition was undoubtedly daunting—after 18 years in a stable career, the leap into the unknown was filled with uncertainty. However, it has also been incredibly rewarding.

Here are five lessons I’ve learned along the way:

1. Embrace Change: Stepping out of my comfort zone allowed me to discover new passions and strengths I never knew I had.
2. Lifelong Learning: Education doesn’t stop at a certain age. Learning alongside younger peers enriched my experience and broadened my perspective.
3. Community Matters: Joining sororities and professional networks provided support and camaraderie, reminding me that we are stronger together.
4. Follow Your Passion: Pursuing what you love, regardless of age, brings fulfillment and joy that a stable job might not.
5. Courage is Key: Taking risks can be intimidating, but facing your fears opens doors to incredible opportunities and personal growth.

Ultimately, leaving my established career to chase my dreams was terrifying but equally exhilarating. You can pursue your passion at any age, and it’s worth every leap of faith.
