From Code to Creativity: Web Dev to Figma

From Code to Creativity: Web Dev to Figma

Everyone has an interesting story to tell about their career journey.? Working as an IT Recruiter allows me to listen to a lot of these fascinating stories.? Coming from the industry, I am able to empathize and maybe add my 2-cents based on my own relate stories.?

?

This post is me telling my story as I continue on with my journey.? I won't go into the details of my background (maybe for another post) but I will talk briefly about it to set the stage.? I started as Web Developer hacking out code for Business Intelligence applications.? I then move on to the business side of IT to sell large solutions.?

?

Honestly, I was that typical geeky introvert who just loves to hack out code.? To move to the front office of tech, I needed to pivot my personality to be an aggressive extrovert.? There were a lot of lessons learn through this transformation process but I'm glad I did it.?

So, now that I have both software development and business development experiences, I feel that the missing skill sets to truly make me a 360 degrees, holistic IT dude is design.? I remember working for a small web development firm where the company had to pair me with a designer that knew Photoshop, Illustrator, Flash (oops... dating myself a little :), etc. because I didn't have that artistical eye.

?

Well, I'm not saying that I have it now but I'm working on it.? Below, you will find my Figma's "Hello World" project.? It's a movie ticketing system with each screen showing each step of the purchasing workflow.?

?

In order to quickly produce the screen shots below and make them look uniformly, I had to make sure each screen shot has the same dimension.? I took the screen shot from Figma Prototype and then went into Canva Pro to quickly remove the black background.? I know, I know... this is a rough and dirty process and some pixels were lost but I'm hoping you'll agree that it wasn't a bad trade off between pixel and speed.?

?

Anyway, let me know what y'all think of this project and how I can continue to improve myself to be that truly holistic tech dude!?
