From Cocoa Farms to Classrooms: Safeguarding Children's Rights

From Cocoa Farms to Classrooms: Safeguarding Children's Rights

No child should ever have to bear the weight of labour that steals their right to education, play, and a secure childhood.

Aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs), we have developed and adopted a robust policy aimed at prevention, education, and collaboration. By working hand-in-hand with local authorities and communities, we address the root causes of child labour: poverty, limited access to education, and systemic inequalities. We have made it our mission to safeguard the welfare of every child connected to cocoa production.

Taking Decisive Action

Our policy outlines clear, actionable steps to eliminate child labour from our operations and contribute to sustainable development in cocoa-producing regions:

  1. Preventing Child Labour We ensure that child labour is eradicated across all our farming operations, holding ourselves and our partners to the highest ethical standards.
  2. Raising Awareness By engaging employees, suppliers, and community members, we foster a deeper understanding of child labour issues and their impact on children and families.
  3. Improving Opportunities for Youth We are empowering the next generation through enhanced access to education and opportunities that inspire brighter futures for young people in cocoa-producing areas. This includes collaborating with local authorities and organisations We allocate resources to fund educational initiatives, ensuring that children have the tools they need to succeed.
  4. Providing Education and Training To ensure lasting change, we provide comprehensive training to employees, suppliers, and other stakeholders on the prevention of child labour and the protection of children’s rights. This includes training on identifying and addressing the root causes of child labour and fostering a culture of responsibility within our supply chain.
  5. Collaborating with Local Partners Sustainable, long-term solutions require collective action. We work closely with local authorities, and communities to support families and create systems that protect children’s rights.

Coordinating and Implementing Our Policy

To oversee the effective implementation of our policy, we have established an internal coordinating body. This body consists of representatives from both Three Mountains Cocoa and the respective communities we serve. It is tasked with ensuring the coordination of our efforts, including the allocation of resources for education and training initiatives, monitoring and remediation measures, and ongoing stakeholder engagement.

Growing a Future That Protects Dreams

At the heart of our efforts lies a simple yet profound vision: to grow a cocoa industry that uplifts communities while safeguarding the rights and dreams of their children. By honouring the heritage of Ghanaian cocoa, we also protect and nurture the next generation.
