From Cincinnati to Chad and everywhere in between: The spirit of giving back at FieldCore
One of the things that truly makes FieldCore special is our employees’ spirit of giving back.
Rather than driving our charitable involvement from a central headquarters, we prefer to let employees get involved in local charities that they support. The end result is something much more powerful than a traditional Corporate Social Responsibility program … it’s an employee driven, hyperlocal engagement plan that benefits more people in a more original, organic way.
Thousands of FieldCore employees from literally every corner of the world share their time, talent and treasure with dozens of non-profits ranging from Elementary Schools to donating surplus equipment to first responders to literally providing life-sustaining fresh water.
We are very proud of our employees and what they do in the communities where we live and work. Here are but a few of their stories:
One Company’s excess equipment is a fire department’s life-saving device
For years FieldCore used the famous “Jaws of Life” to remove stator bars from generators. When new methods and tools were developed to more quickly and efficiently complete this repair, the Jaws of Life became excess equipment. FieldCore employees came up with a brilliant idea … donate this life-saving gear to two local fire departments in Ohio to outfit their rescue trucks.
“I’m so glad we found such a great use of these tools not that we don’t need them anymore,” said North America Tooling Director Chris Crookshanks. “Our tools will directly lead to saving lives and minimizing injuries. That’s a very powerful feeling.”
Bringing the life-sustaining gift of clean drinking water
The FieldCore team was working in the African nation of Chad for an Oil & Gas customer. Beyond conducting the work safely and efficiently, the team learned that local villagers had to walk many miles each day to get the water they needed to survive.
Upon hearing this, the team raised money and had a drinking well constructed for villagers. This team literally brought safe drinking water to the people near the plant, changing their lives for the better.
Passing it on to the next generation
Atlanta's Brumby Elementary School is 2 miles from FieldCore's office and is a school where 100% of students are enrolled in STEM programs. North America Resource Managers Chris Vaught (pictured above) and Kwan Lewis taught 100 kids at Brumby about electricity and careers in the power generation industry.
FieldCore is a strategic partner of the school, contributing significantly to their STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Math) program.
Helping out around the corner or around the world
FieldCore employees in Baden, Switzerland participated in a Fun Run to raise money to build two schools in Senegal. The GE & FieldCore team raised more than $8,000 for BuildOn, an organization dedicated to building schools in some of the poorest countries in the world.
FieldCore Global Process Quality Manager Lothar Doerflinger said, “I have travelled the world for 40 years and have seen much injustice, often the most extreme poverty right next to luxurious five star resorts. I have developed the desire to make a lasting difference at least to some people.”
These are but a few of the dozens of charities FieldCore employees support around the world. Our employees participate in their community because it matter to them … this one of the reasons I am proud to work alongside the 13,000 employees in FieldCore.
As we approach the end of the year, I believe its important to think about the impact we can have on the world and follow the lead of these outstanding employees.
