I recently took a week out of work for a family members birthday, I was lucky enough to travel to northern Sweden to a beautiful place called Kiruna. From the stress of running a business 24 hours a day 7 days a week to the silence of a frozen lake and nothing for miles I have to say they are worlds apart.
Sometimes in life we forget to stop... leave the pressure and stress of everyday live behind and just do nothing. My first step in stopping was to allow myself the time away from my business to spend time with my partner and family to relax. At a time when business has been tough due to the economic climate, US elections and being in between our existing products and our next generation platform there was never a good time to take time out, especially not now.
I thrive on my business, it feeds my passion, it makes me tick but I also love my family and need life outside of business. Everyday I miss out on important events due to work so when I do stop I realise its more important to really switch off and make use of this time.
Todays thought from me is, most of us thrive on business and no matter what challenges we face we hit them head on, but we all need valuable time out with friends and loved ones and its important to allow ourselves this time. Take that much needed break, dont put it off or make excuses why you cant and when you return you will be more focused and feel better for it.
Work and home life balance is not easy, but you can make it happen.
