From Care Facilitator to Guardian Angel
Sometimes a smile is all we need to make our day, but for one patient out of our Louisville medical center, she received more than a smile. She received a guardian angel in the form of Magan Truitt , a Front Desk Team Lead from our Valley Station JenCare Senior Medical Center.
"Magan is like a daughter to me, and I just love her..."
When Magan began working at the Louisville center, she started as a Care Facilitator. Part of her duties was to call patients and remind them of their upcoming appointments. This is how Magan met Ms. Rita. What began as simple “hellos” on the phone soon became conversations when Ms. Rita came in for her appointments. But their friendship solidified the day Ms. Rita was in pain and was desperate need of a medication. Going above and beyond her duties, Magan came to her rescue and delivered the medications to her home.

As time passed, Magan and the team of social workers at JenCare realized Ms. Rita needed more than just medical care, she had food and housing insecurities. Understanding that health goes beyond the body, the team worked together to help Ms. Rita get what she needed. In addition, Magan not only helped the patient get health insurance, but helped her locate adequate living arrangements, attended appointments with her, and helped her find furniture for the apartment. At one point, Magan even brought her clothes that could fit her well because her body so small and petite.
Sadly, Ms. Rita has lost all 3 of her children, so Magan feels that she is the granddaughter Ms. Rita never had. “Magan is like a daughter to me, and I just love her,” Ms. Rita says. “I don’t know where I would be without her.”
Today, Magan speaks to her WEEKLY and delivers her groceries every 2 weeks to make sure she has proper food. Everything a child would do for their parent Magan has done for this patient. During this time, Magan quickly rose in her rank at work going from Care Facilitator to Team Leader. The story of Ms. Rita is just one of many from Magan, but it’s through these experiences that she discovered her purpose – to help the vulnerable. She is now studying to become a social worker so she can make an even greater impact. She plans to graduate in 2025. Learn more about Magan’s story as featured by Spectrum News by clicking here.
