A Journey of Resilience and Inspiration
A few days ago, a friend sent me a link that floored me. I discovered that I have a page on Wikipedia…
Through high school, I studied by candlelight. I didn’t let that dictate my dreams.
Sometimes, because I didn’t have enough notebooks, I would manage one notebook for two or three different subjects. But I didn’t let that affect my dream to become a writer.
From writing poems in the dark to writing books in the light, from writing poems in a remote village to being indexed on Wikipedia as an author with my picture, my story is the untold story of countless men and women around the world who defied the odds.
My story is also the story yet to be written of countless young people around the world who will defy the odds.
This isn’t about vanity metrics. It’s about inspiring others to see their own potential.
My purpose on this platform is to reach the latter group. My hope is that when they come across my story, they don’t see me, but they see themselves. Their own potential.
I acknowledge my village of Afanya. To all the kids growing up there now, I hope seeing one of their own being recognized on Wikipedia is empowering. That’s one of the main reasons why I share this story.

This one is for anyone who has a dream but is filled with doubts and fears. If you come across this, let it be the permission you’re seeking.

You too can become a representation to someone. Whether that be to a village in Africa, to a career field, a profession, a community, or a culture… you could make a world of difference in someone else’s life.
Your aspirations are valid. Never try to justify why your aspirations are what they are.
The universe created you with them for a reason. And most importantly, it did so because you can.
Follow your heart and trust the process.
