From the C-Suite to the P-Suite

From the C-Suite to the P-Suite

In Dec of 2019 we made the difficult but right decision to bring back balance to our life. We moved back to our home in Atlantic Canada and have never looked back.

At my departure I was in a very busy executive with the 8th largest bank in North America in a very rewarding but demanding job. Family was always important however 50+ hour work weeks, many community commitments and a less than healthy lifestyle sometimes made a work-life balance a challenge.

After taking some time for our family in January we finally arrived in Nova Scotia mid February and I was eager to jump back into the game in search of a new opportunity. I quickly filled my calendar with market meetings in an effort to explore what the next chapter might look like.

Then March 14th arrived and everything changed. With my wife working full time our roles were reversed. What a wake up call it was for me having moved from the corporate world to providing care for my children. I would have never imagined being in this situation but I would not trade the time that I have had and continue to have with my children

The change from a very busy corporate life to an even busier (but different) parenting role was very difficult. While my love for my children and wife is unwavering this was a very difficult change for me. I honestly felt like I had lost a sense of purpose as I adjusted It was not until I gave myself permission......that things changed

Once I gave myself permission and shifted my mindset, I felt liberated to explore and do the things that I otherwise would never have had the opportunity to do. My girls and I spent uninterrupted time together and I became a new age version of Mr. Dressup with crafts, tea parties and endless adventures. I rediscovered a love of carpentry and those 20lbs I always wanted to lose while I am on track to double that goal and feel healthier than I have in many years.  We walked, talked and laughed as a family everyday and I have to tell the hills of Bedford were sometimes unforgiving. All of these experiences priceless to me!

So my new found wisdom;

? always follow your heart as it will never lead you astray

? Life gives you gifts when you least expect.

? Take risks; growth and comfort do not live at the same address

? You are not defined by a title unless it’s the one; Dad, husband, friend, brother, son...

? Make time for YOU and your passions

?Personal success will make you an even stronger and more effective Leader

? Health is Wealth

?Childcare workers are special people.

? Enjoy the ride and be thankful for what you have!

We couldn’t be happier and I am excited about the road ahead...

Be well and safe!

Very well said. I wish more could find their ah ha moments. Covid has brought a lot of positive changes, family being most important. Those who want to go back the way it was, have so missed the mark. I’m glad you found your treasure.
