From Big Law to entrepreneurship with Amanda Moncada-Perkins?

Hi! You’re here because you’re a woman who runs an independent consulting business, and you want to learn how to make it more profitable. In our world, that means doing more of the work you love, with the clients you enjoy, and getting paid for your value, not your time.

Here, you'll discover effective strategies to implement in your consulting business, as well as hear inspiring stories from other smart and successful women who are also running their own consulting businesses. Along the way, you’ll learn that you can build the consulting business you want, that lets you live the life you want, and you’re not alone.?

I'm glad you're here! Let's dive in.

Today on The Smart Gets Paid Podcast, we're diving into a topic that I’m guessing will resonate hard with you – transitioning from a corporate career to running your own consulting business.?

If this episode were a movie, I’d say it was a ‘tale of perseverance and courage’. Does that resonate too? This one is DEFINITELY for you!

I sat down with the awesome Amanda Moncada-Perkins, a business attorney who focuses on collaborating with women CEOs to help them protect and grow their companies, businesses, and intellectual property.?

Amanda's journey from Big Law to entrepreneurship is one that I’m sure you’ll relate to.

Let's be real – making this transition isn't easy. There's a lot of mind trash to overcome, and the reality of building a client base can be daunting.?

Like many of us, Amanda struggled for a while. But she kept going.

Like many of us, Amanda struggled for a while. But she kept going.

Some key points from our conversation:

?? Overcoming the mindset challenges of leaving a prestigious career is tough.?

Amanda shared, "I heard things like 'you're committing career suicide'... This idea of losing my identity, not really being taken seriously, and not really mattering – without having the backing of these types of firms behind me – was jarring and scary."

?? The "first wave" of clients after launching can be unpredictable.?

Sometimes it lasts, sometimes it dies down quickly, and sometimes it doesn't materialize at all. The "build it and they will come" mentality doesn't work. You have to actively work on getting clients.

?? Imposter syndrome hits hard, especially seeing others already in your space.?

Amanda wondered, "Who am I to think that I would bring any value that they're not already bringing?"

But here's where it gets REALLY good! ???Soon after we spoke, Amanda made some big and exciting changes to her business. She agreed to get together all over again to record an epilogue. So make sure you hang around right until the end to hear what happened!

This episode is for you if you're transitioning from a corporate career to consulting, if you're struggling with mindset issues in your business, or if you're wondering if this whole independent consulting thing is actually your thing or not...

Hi! I'm Leah Neaderthal. I'm a sales coach for women consultants and the founder of Smart Gets Paid .

When I left my corporate career and started my first consulting business, I learned three things very quickly:

1- It’s 1000x harder to sell your own stuff than to sell someone else’s.

2- Marketing is not selling.

3- I had no idea how to sell.

I needed clients, but I didn’t know how to actually get them, and I was terrified of coming off like a used car salesman. It made me doubt whether I was even cut out to run a business.

So I taught myself how to get new clients in a way that feels authentic, allows me to be myself, and that works consistently. I now teach these techniques to others. Because I know it’s possible to learn how to land clients, and actually feel comfortable doing it, once you know how.

---

Whenever you’re ready to start landing higher-paying clients, here are three ways I can help you.

1. Listen to the Smart Gets Paid Podcast

You’ll hear me chat with my actual clients as we tackle their biggest challenges in getting new clients, and you’ll learn sales strategies you can use today in your own business. It's the only podcast that can help you land higher-paying clients in your B2B consulting business. Listen on Apple Podcasts or your favorite podcast platform.

2. Get your copy of Referrals on Repeat

If you’ve gotten clients through referrals or word-of-mouth, and you want to start getting referral clients more consistently, get your copy of Referrals on Repeat, and start getting more referrals coming into your business today: smartgetspaid.com/referrals

3. Break through to the next revenue level in your consulting business with help from my team and me.

Learn the proven, step-by-step system women like you are using to get more of the clients they want, get paid way more for their consulting contracts, and build confidence that they know what they’re doing to get clients. Send me a message here on LinkedIn with “Breakthrough” in the first line and I’ll get you the details.

This episode was so good. I didn't think I'd have much in common with a corporate attorney, but so much of Amanda's journey really resonated with me.
