From Bias to Belief: Transforming Perspectives on Women's Choices and Lives

“Don't be afraid to do something just because you are scared of what people are going to say. People will judge you no matter what”.

Women's choices and lives are often unfairly scrutinized and judged based on outdated beliefs and stereotypes. It's time to challenge these biases and embrace a more inclusive perspective.

Homemakers are often undervalued, despite their significant contributions to families and communities. Being a homemaker is a valid choice that deserves respect and support.

Non-working women are sometimes criticized for not contributing economically. However, they make invaluable contributions through volunteer work, caregiving, and other forms of unpaid labor. All forms of work should be respected and valued.

Working women are often judged for prioritizing their careers over family. They shouldn't have to choose between the two. Women should be free to pursue their career goals without fear of judgment, as supporting working women benefits society as a whole.

Society should recognize and address the additional challenges faced by marginalized women, such as those from lower socio-economic backgrounds, LGBTQ+ women, women with disabilities, and women from minority ethnic or religious groups.

Educational institutions and workplaces should provide equal opportunities for women to thrive and advance in their chosen fields, without facing discrimination or bias.

Media and popular culture should portray women in diverse roles and challenge stereotypes, promoting a more realistic and positive image of women in society.

I want to share an incident that happened recently. In India, we have traffic jams, and during one such incident, I noticed a cab next to me. Inside, there was a man, maybe in his mid-30s, wearing shorts and resting his legs towards the front seat. No one seemed to be bothered, and everyone was acting normally. At that moment, I thought, if it were a girl or a woman in that cab, people would start judging, and everyone would stare. It's all about perspective and how we perceive situations, and it reflects on our character.

It's important to recognize that a woman's worth is not defined by her activities in a given moment. For example, there are instances where a woman is judged when her husband comes home from work and she is sitting on the sofa, either looking at her phone or watching TV. This does not mean she is simply relaxing all day. It likely means she has completed all the household chores and is taking a moment to relax and unwind. Such moments of rest and peace of mind are essential for everyone's well-being and should not be misconstrued as a lack of productivity.

Stop judging women based on what they wear, what they dream, or how much they do. At the end of the day, the only question that matters is, "What have you done today?"

When discussing feminism, gender equality, respect, or expectations, it's crucial to remember that above all these, there is something called humanity. Understanding and empathy towards each other's choices and experiences are fundamental to creating a more equitable and inclusive society.

In conclusion, we must challenge biases and respect women's diverse choices. Valuing women's roles as homemakers, non-working individuals, and professionals is crucial. By prioritizing understanding and respect, we can create a more inclusive society that supports all women.
