From Berlin to adjoe: My Hamburg Relocation Story

From Berlin to adjoe: My Hamburg Relocation Story

I can’t believe it’s already been almost 4 months since I moved to Hamburg and joined adjoe !

Those who know me well understand how much I loved being in Berlin, where every corner is filled with history. It’s a special feeling that sparked my deep interest in history and culture.

It just so happened that I’ve moved to places I’d never been before—three times! What an adventure, huh?

That was exactly the case with Hamburg. Honestly, I didn’t know what to expect, but I had heard plenty about the rain (starting from the job offer ??). I didn’t believe the weather warnings until the day I counted 20 downpours by noon…

?? Moving: 2 suitcases, 2 hours by train?

I sincerely wish everyone could experience a move as smooth and easy-going as mine. The HR team handled all the paperwork and was always available to answer my questions or provide extra documents for the migration office. The actual move took just a few hours to get from the railway station to my new apartment. Yes, there were some challenges finding even a temporary place, but that’s typical for any big city in Germany. It wasn’t any harder than in Berlin, for instance.

?? The very welcome on board

I’ve been part of many onboarding processes and even developed them myself, so I always pay close attention to those "first dates" with a new company. And I have to say, I was blown away by how much cross-team support I received here at adjoe! Everyone was genuinely invested in making me feel comfortable and prepared.

I had lots of meetings with different teams, explored the product, and dove deep into the infrastructure—really understanding why scalability and cost-efficiency are such priorities for adjoe. I was given plenty of handy resources, and the navigation was a breeze.

The standout moment for me was when my manager laid out a clear roadmap with expectations for each stage of my onboarding. That gave me a solid understanding of what success looks like in this role.

And, of course, a huge shoutout to my amazing buddy, Sera Yener , who was there for me every step of the way!

I believe this incredibly supportive environment exists because so many people here have relocated as well. They're eager to build new connections—or at the very least, offer support—because they understand firsthand how much life changes and what you’re going through.

?? A Moveable Feast

The first two months were packed with onboarding info and team events (we had about four!). By the time I got home, my mind was buzzing with everything I had to absorb—there was no room for anything else, let alone exploring the city. But once the whirlwind of the "new everything era" settled down, I finally started paying attention to my surroundings. And you know what? It’s absolutely stunning!

For me, Hamburg has become a place where I feel happy every day, embracing everything life brings. Watching so many people running around the Alster inspired me to pick up my long-forgotten hobbies—running and cycling. At adjoe, we also have our own gym and group classes, which are perfect for staying active and meeting new sport buddies!

The many canals throughout the city finally pushed me to try something I’d always thought about but never tried—paddling (thanks to Christian Stoll for making it happen)! It’s all about celebrating life, enjoying every moment, and finding inspiration from both my colleagues and the random people I encounter around the city.

The biggest inspiration for me was restarting German classes—something I didn’t quite get to in Berlin! And the best part? The company had my back, covering the costs. (Oh, those public announcements definitely give me that extra push to keep going and not give up!??)

The first few months in a new place are always the most romantic; you're filled with excitement and new emotions. I know every relocation journey is unique, influenced by various factors and how smooth the process is. I've shared my story, and if it inspires you, check out our career page—this could be your next step or destination!
