ChandraKumar R Pillai To answer "What are the potential legal and ethical implications of using AI-generated data for training models like Claude 3.5 Sonnet?", I have the following observations: - Synthetic data can introduce bias that can violate existing laws (e.g. US Civil Rights Act of 1964). When generating data for training a recommendation system, we observed that the data not only contained gender bias (70% male), but also "cultural" bias as most names were English based. - #GenerativeAI predicts the next most probable token(s) based on context. If the underlying model is trained on copyrighted material, then you could inadvertently include copyrighted material in your own training set. - The legal space around #GenerativeAI is evolving (albeit at a much slower rate than the technology) and to quote Mustafa Suleyman "You cannot control what you do not understand". If we take the example of the ELVIS Act in Tennessee (https://aibusiness.com/responsible-ai/tennessee-enacts-elvis-act-to-protect-artist-voices-from-ai-misuse), some have argued that it could lead to the unintended closing of #AI companies due to its language.
