From Being A Sales Rep To Being A Data Scientist.
Having a career transition from Business Developer /Sales Specialist to Data Scientist.
Being in Business Development from past a year after completing MBA from ICFAI Business School, Mumbai and working with renowned start-ups in reaching out to more numbers and more customer base and daily running for revenue targets, I felt that I am just running like any other employee. It is not about that I Hate Cold Calling or I did not want to do it or the people on the other side of the phone did not want me to do it either. Not like that at all. A small part of my job always involved analytics & statistics about the campaign performance. Surprisingly, I really liked presenting and explaining the data to my clients. I loved the technical part of my job, even though it was really not that significant and relied mainly on Google Analytics.
So, “Data Science, here I come".
· Learning programming as a complete beginner.
Using my background as a strength
· Having soft skills in Data Scientists are extremely valuables. Next to applying powerful Machine Learning models, Data Scientists have to tell the story that the data is hiding, and no one wants to listen to a boring, platonic story.
· I believe that with my past experience and academics has made me a quite decent presenter and that I could easily turn my models into simple concepts that non Data Scientists could understand.
· As a Sales Specialist, I had spent a year presenting products to people, telling them stories to put the products into context, limiting it to the content that mattered to them, using words that made sense to them. Explaining the results of a Data Science I think will be not much of a difference.
Knowing my limits
· Making a switch as big as this one, ready on toes to put in a lot of efforts.
· On the verge of being the best at statistics and programming.
· Taking an opportunity to learn and who to learn from. No matter how much experience a Data Scientist have, this field is in constant motion and no Data Scientist should ever be done learning.
Till Date Specialties
· Programming in R
· Experience with Python
· Data Analyses in Excel
· Exploratory Data Analysis
· CRISP-DM Framework
· Data Visualizations – Hands on experience with Plotly (Graphing Library)
Big thanks to Mr. Davide Cervellin(eBay’s head of EU analytics). According to him, data analysis is more effective when the Sales VP is also the data scientist – this one line motivated me enough to take this bold step of taking a career transition.
IIIT- B & upGrad can’t thank enough, for bringing this opportunity at door step and making me believe that I can explore more creative part of mine with the help of Data Science Program.
Looking forward to learn and utilize the knowledge in upcoming projects and transiting career in the field of data science.
