CBRE recently released the San Diego Retail Big Box Report. Here are some key takeaways: -Even though San Diego County experienced the largest amount of Big Box absorption (19 boxes) in years, there are still an all-time high of 44 boxes currently available. -Big Lots, Inc. is closing 75 of its 109 stores in California. The four shopping center locations closing in San Diego County total 112,061 sq. ft. -Decreased consumer spending, coupled with rising operational costs have negatively impacted several discount retailers. Many have significantly reduced their total number of stores or shuttered them altogether. -As a result of increasing online retail, the impact of opioid lawsuits and shrinkage, many drugstore chains are beginning to reposition themselves as Health and Wellness facilities.
