?? $2.58bn financing agreement for three solar projects in Saudi Arabia
ACWA Power has secured SAR 9.7B ($2.58B) through a consortium of banks for the development of three new solar projects in Saudi Arabia. The three plants, located in Haden, Muwyah, and Al-Khushaybi, will each have capacities of between 1.5K-2K MWs.
Agreements were signed by Buraiq Renewable Energy Company, Moya Renewable Energy Company, and Nabah Renewable Energy Company, which will be jointly owned by ACWA Power, Badeel, and Saudi aramco .

?? Saudi Arabia’s first green hydrogen training program launched
NEOM Green Hydrogen Company (NGHC) and EWA - Energy and Water Academy have unveiled Saudi Arabia’s first hydrogen training program.
Open to Saudi nationals, the one- and two-year programs will enroll science and engineering graduates to complete vocational training in green hydrogen production
NGHC’s hydrogen plant – the world’s largest - will become operational in 2026, producing up to 600 tons of carbon-free hydrogen a day.
Saudi Arabia aims to achieve 50% of power generation capacity from renewable sources by 2030.

?? Digital afforestation initiative launched in Makkah
The Holy City of Makkah has launched a digital afforestation initiative, enabling residents to contribute to greening efforts through an online platform.
Residents are able to select a location for their respective trees, which the Holy City of Makkah will plant on their behalf. The scheme aims to increase tree coverage in the city, using species that are sympathetic to the area and its holy sites.
The initiative aligns with national ambitions under SGI to grow 10 billion trees across Saudi Arabia.

?? Taif Green Association completes phase in tree planting project
Over 3,000 trees have been planted in Taif, completing a project to enhance green spaces in the city’s Al-Wissam neighborhood.
Volunteers supported the greening efforts, which was conducted by the Taif Green Association in collaboration with the Taif municipality under the guidance of HRH Prince Saud Nahar bin Saud bin Abdulaziz.
A new phase of the project is set to begin in the city’s Al-Rumaida neighborhood.

?? Revival of water springs strengthens sustainable water solutions in KSA
HE Eng. Abdulrahman AlFadley, Minister of Environment, Water and Agriculture, has called for collaborative efforts to support sustainable water resources
Their return has been attributed to increased rainfall and optimized agricultural water management. In future, surplus water could be redirected to irrigate afforestation efforts being conducted under SGI.

??? KSA sites nominated for UNESCO Global Geoparks Network inclusion
Saudi Arabia’s North Riyadh Geopark and Salma Geopark have been nominated for inclusion in the UNESCO Global Geoparks Network, endorsed this month by the UNESCO Global Geoparks Council.
The nominations mark a step towards international recognition of the geologically significant sites, highlighting Saudi Arabia’s commitment to environmental conservation.
A final decision is expected in March 2025.

5 个月All three initiatives as in afforestation, tree planting and sustainable water investments are very welcome. Can we hope that KSA will support similar investments in countries which need to boost water resources and biophilic development? We have examples of great risk to populations due to desertification and there is a need for equity and debt to finance these.
