From AI skills to sustainability — building the future of work

Hello and welcome to the October edition of the Randstad Roundup. We're looking to the future as we get closer to the end of 2023. Read on to learn about some of the initiatives we believe will help build a better workplace for tomorrow.

Technology for tomorrow

The world of work is changing, adapting to new technologies and challenges, and we’re constantly looking for insights into what the future holds.?

Artificial intelligence (AI) has been a focal point of our latest Workmonitor Pulse report, and new data shows that only around one in 10 workers have been offered AI training in the last year.?

That’s despite a 20-fold increase in job ads requiring generative AI skills, and the belief of over half of workers that AI skills will be essential for their role.?

“AI is here to stay and the benefits of it are very clear,” says our CEO Sander van ‘t Noordende. “Our data shows that employees stand ready to embrace it for their own gain too. Successful organizations will be those that leverage this readiness and harness the opportunities of AI in their workforce."

Find out more insights about AI and learning and development (L&D) in our latest Workmonitor Pulse report .

Our research shows surprising differences between views on AI in different countries.

What drives global talent scarcity?

Talent shortages are an acute issue for employers around the globe and the challenge is growing in many markets, underscoring the need to find solutions.

A new Randstad report finds that aging workforces, low unemployment and rises in vacancies for high-skilled jobs are all contributing to the competitive talent environment.

Read the full research here to examine the 10 trends driving talent scarcity, as well as the opportunities employers have to navigate the world of work.?

A brighter future

September marked the Randstad Month of Heart , our month-long campaign designed to encourage Randstad employees to undertake charitable activities.

All colleagues are given a set number of volunteering hours each year, allowing them to support a cause close to their hearts. From facilitating skills development to opening new doors in a more equitable world of work, we are proud of all the efforts made by our team members worldwide.

Elsewhere, we’re proud to have been awarded the 2023 ESG Investing Award for “Best Company for Social Responsibility”. We hope our many community initiatives will lead to a more equitable world for all. You can read more about them here .

As ever, we’re committed to building a more equitable workplace now and in the future, and we’ve seen some wonderful examples of this from our colleagues globally. Floss Aggrey, Chief Diversity & Inclusion Officer, Randstad North America, recently contributed to this piece from the World Economic Forum , which explores ways organizations can make true ED&I progress.

And around the world, Randstad teams have been raising the flag for the UN Sustainable Development Goals. We’re actively working to empower underrepresented talent, creating improved pathways for all talent pools. You can find out more about our efforts here .

A strategic update: we announce our ‘partner for talent’ strategy?

Today, our Executive Leadership Team is sharing a special announcement from Randstad’s Capital Markets Day event live in London. With our ‘partner for talent’ strategy, we’re moving forward towards being the world's most equitable and specialized talent company. In doing so, we will be focused on four key areas of specialization that keep talent at the heart of everything we do.?

You’re invited to watch the event - live or recorded - with stream details at the end of our full announcement here .

That’s it for this month — join us next time for more insights into the world of work.

Hi there! I would like you to stop sending me news from your activity. First because when i ask you if i can give my opinion not being a part of your team but un colaborator, you said that this, doesn't concern me, and second, because anyway you don't hear the real voices who really can bring benefits in their career or in your real activity with this collaboration ! Thanks for your time.

Randstad Portugal is the worst. salary slips always have errors, they make promises to assistants and they don't keep them, assistants work overtime requested by the company and wait 2 or 3 months for processing errors to be corrected, lack of respect from supervisors towards assistants are constant. Unfortunately, Randstad Portugal is the company of this type with the most complaints on the complaint portal (https://portaldaqueixa.com/brands/randstad), ranging from racial discrimination to alleged fraud in payments due. It's a shame that management doesn't have a pulse on the company and improve the conditions of workers and doesn't show any interest in the satisfaction of the people who work there. At Randstad Lisbon, workers are treated as numbers and any complaint presented, the only answer they got is "there is 50 available for your position, so you know what you have to do"
