From Agony Aunt to Boss Lady..

Never in my wildest imagination did I see myself wearing the COO hat at 46 for a startup I ideated.

Why was the COO gig perfect for me? Simple. I am a people-person foremost. Secondly, I can handle budgets without breaking a sweat. Pulling off a successful career in Human Relations (Yes! Not "resources"; that's another story for another day), conversing convincingly with customers, talking to vendors in challenging situations, speaking with my team and motivating them to work under stressful circumstances without breaking into fits is probably why I can walk the talk of being a boss lady (not my words but the teams'). Plus, most of all, the company wallet thanked me.??

The life of a COO isn't just boardrooms and fancy title. That sneaky third 'O' had many qualities hidden inside it besides operations.? ?

The?Overseer:?Who oversees the ups and downs in hiring, keeping an eye on the inflows and outflows.??

Captain of?Outcomes:?Who is instrumental in prepping and sealing a deal, signing the dotted lines, managing timelines and ensuring customer delight.??

Chief of?Organizational needs:?Who is always on the lookout for the next trendy, cost-effective new office space, chatting up with vendors, managing system requirements, stock-taking the stationaries and replenishing them, at times clearing the bins, and dusting the tables (when the housekeeping staff fails to show up) and ensuring things are in place. The LIST goes on...??

While the CEO is building bridges, I am proud to be the bedrock, balancing to keep things on point. And honestly? How often do we get to boss around at home and work? I wouldn't trade it for the world!
